R. “Bruce” Jones passed away on Feb. 9, 2019 after a 12-year battle with cancer.

Bruce was born in Canandaigua, N.Y. on April 1, 1937. He graduated from Honeoye Falls Central High School in 1954 and went on to attend and graduate from Syracuse University in 1959 (Go Orange!).

His career began at the New York State Agricultural Extension. He later worked for the Ontario Fruit Growers Cooperative, which brought him to Medina. There, he met, married and started a family with Marcia Newman. Bruce became involved in the community through Medina Mini League Baseball leadership and coaching, Medina Football Officials Assistant (chain gang), and leadership positions in Club 651 of the Knights of Columbus.

In 1989, he went to work in Lockport at what is now one of the Basil automotive dealerships. He held several positions, working until 2018.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marcia; and his two sons, Kyle (Laura) and Ryan (Heidi). He was the proud grandfather of Jarrett, Bryce, Cameron and Griffin. He is also survived by his brothers, Paul (Barbara) and Gary (Betty-Jean); and his sisters in-law, June Jones and Joyce Newman.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visitation to celebrate Bruce’s life on Thu., Feb. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial on Fri., Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, POB 631, Buffalo NY 14240; or to Knights-Kaderli Memorial Fund, POB 684, Medina NY 14103.
