Nancy Albanese

Nancy S. Albanese, 89, of Medina, entered into rest on Wed., Aug. 21, 2019 at Medina Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born June 9, 1930 in Lockport, she was a daughter of the late Louis P. and Mary (Healy) Shanley. Mrs. Albanese graduated from Lockport High School in 1948 and went on to graduate from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Licensed Practical Nursing. She married her husband, Dominic Albanese, on Sept. 24, 1955, and they made their home in Medina. Mrs. Albanese worked for many years for Dr. Angelo Leone in Medina until his retirement, after which she went back to college and earned a Registered Nursing degree through GCC. An institution in the Medina community, Mrs. Albanese was employed as a Registered Nurse at Medina Memorial Hospital for over 40 years. Mrs. Albanese loved her profession, to say the least. She was known for her kind and caring demeanor and was a mentor to many. She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, St. Mary’s Church and was a member of the Rosary Society and Court Santa Maria #295, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Mrs. Albanese served on the board of directors at Hospice of Orleans County and as a member of the Medina Memorial Hospital Foundation Board. She was a member of Twigs and an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi International Society. She was a longtime member of the Tuesday Club, and she enjoyed playing bridge, knitting and baking.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dominic Albanese, in 1986; and her sister, Mary Lou (late Carl) Blackly.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary T. (Michael) Thomas of Hollis, N.H.; her two grandchildren, Matthew Thomas of San Diego, Calif. and Melissa Thomas of Boston, Mass.; siblings, Carolyn (late Mauro) Garofalo, David (late Wilma) Shanley, Patricia (John) Joensen, Jane (Raymond) Coakley and Marjorie (John) Heck; also many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wed., Aug 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Richard Csizmar on Thu., Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle St., Medina. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
