Mary WhitingMary B. Whiting, 90, of Medina, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6, 2020. Mary was born on March 14, 1930 in Medina, a daughter of the late Gerald and Johanna (Redmond) Bensley.

She worked for Fisher-Price Toys in Medina, from which she eventually retired. She also was employed at Bells Supermarket. Mary was a lifelong parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, St. Mary’s Church in Medina, and she had a deep love for God. She was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Sabres fan. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She also played softball in the Medina women’s league for many years and bowled in area bowling leagues.

Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold Whiting; her daughter, Janice Colonna; her son, Barry Whiting; her brothers, Gerald, Walter, Donald, Raymond and Robert Bensley; and her sister, Phyllis Thompson.

She was a loving and selfless mother to her daughters, Deborah (Jeffrey) Foster and Melinda “Jello” Whiting, both of Medina; grandmother to Stephanie (William) Harris of Medina, Stephen (Ashley) Foster of Henrietta, Thomas Foster of Medina, Stacey Costich of Medina and Scott (Carrie) Colonna of Lockport; and great-grandmother to Zachary, Brandon and Evan Harris, Bryson and Tessa Costich, and Tucker and Jackson Colonna. She is also survived by her sisters, Rita Barry of Medina and Lucille Hotchkiss of Henrietta; many nieces and nephews; and several cherished grand-dogs.

There will be no visitation. A graveside committal service will be held for her and her husband, Harold, on Sat., Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Medina. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory.
