Mary Ann Tillman
Mary Ann Tillman, 87, of Albion, died Sept. 29, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 25, 1932 in Albion, a daughter of the late Maximilian and Anastasia (Wieczorek) Sledzinski, and she lived in this area all of her life.
Mary Ann and her husband owned and operated the Carlton Grill for 12 years. She also worked as Executive Director of the American Cancer Society in Orleans County.
She was active in many organizations, including Hospice of Orleans with nursing, indirect care, companionship, promotional activities and fundraising; and Office for the Aging with newsletters and special event support. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and Catholic Daughters and helped with fundraising, served as a eucharistic minister, and delivered communion to homebound members. She was involved in the local soup kitchen and was President of Ladies of Charity, and was Director of the support group for her church’s bereavement committee.
Mary Ann also volunteered with the American Red Cross, local libraries, St. Joseph’s School, the VA in Batavia, Oak Orchard Neighborhood Association, the Garden Club, Carlton Ladies Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus, the Board of Public Health office, and at her exercise class.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 2011; and by her brother, Donald Herrington.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Susan) Tillman of Grass Range, Mont.; daughter, Pat (Chris) Haines of Savannah, Ga.; granddaughter, Amanda (Darian) Abraham of Charleston, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Aiden; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, on Thu., Oct. 3 from 3 to 6 p.m. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Fri., Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
