Louis Greenwald
Louis Greenwald went to be with his Savior and Lord following a car accident on Sept. 10, 2024, in the town of Somerset, Niagara County, NY. Louie was born the son of Paul and Nellie (Snowdon) Greenwald on May 22, 1946 in Lockport, NY. He was a 3-sport athlete at Barker Central School, Barker, NY. He also played the bass clarinet in the school band and that’s where he was placed on Linda Eaton’s team for selling chocolate bars as a band fundraiser. He was 15 and she was 17, but they soon fell in love that lasted a lifetime. Linda went off to Wheaton College near Chicago and Louie wrote her a letter every day for 4 years so there would always be a letter from him when she checked her CPO box.
After graduation from BCS in 1964, Louie began studying Physical Therapy at Ithaca College. Louie and Linda were married on August 20, 1966. The last year of training was in the Bronx at Jacobi Hospital. Upon graduation in 1968, Louie was commissioned as an officer in the Army Medical Specialists Corps stationed at Ft. Leonard, MO. He gained valuable experience treating injured soldiers returning from Viet Nam. Louie loved being a Physical Therapist and liked to say that he was a Physical Therapist before anyone knew what a Physical Therapist was. In Indiana he began volunteering with high school and college athletic teams when very few schools had athletic trainers. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Physical Therapy Association. He was the President of both the Indiana and Iowa Chapters of the APTA. Louie also helped start two PT schools. He loved to study and teach God’s Word and share the love of Christ with people of all ages. In retirement, he had a very long list of people he was praying for.
Louie is survived by his sister, Linna Farewell (Kenneth) of Middleport and their son, Warren. Louie will be greatly missed by his “Wifey”, (AKA Linda Eaton Greenwald) to whom he was devotedly married for 58 years. They were blessed with 4 sons: Benjamin (Jennifer), Joseph (Elizabeth), John (Amy), and Thomas (Amy). Also 12 grandchildren: Brandon, Zachary, Taylor, Elise (Casey), Jacob, Ezekiel, Naomi, Nina, Nathaniel, Alexander and Christopher, and 2 great-grandsons: Peyton and Indy.
Calling hours will be held in West Somerset Baptist Church 1876 Hosmer Rd. Barker, NY on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 9:30am – 10:20am. Funeral services will start at 10:30am. The burial will be in Somerset Cemetery.
