Leroy Banks, Sr.

MEDINA – Leroy Banks, Sr., 89, of Medina, NY, passed away March 31, 2022 at Unity Hospital in Greece, NY following a brief illness. He was born on August 9, 1932 in Eufaula, Alabama.

He attended school at Mt. Zion in Louisville, Alabama. He was a dedicated employee of Abex Corporation since 1966 until he retired. From early childhood, Leroy was very hardworking and industrious. He devoted his life to caring for, and providing for, his family. In his spare time, he loved listening to the blues and jazz music, cooking, while spending time with family and friends, relating life experiences and making humorous remarks always leading to laughter. He deeply loved all his family. Leroy was very personable and knew no strangers.

He was preceded in death by his son, Willie J. Banks; his daughter, Marydell Banks-Mitchell; and his sister in-law, Betty Ann Banks (Rufus, his only brother, survives to mourn him).

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Odella Banks, of 66 years. Also surviving are his beloved children, Roylee (Jeanette) Banks, Alice Ann (Robert) Hunter, James Banks, Bobby Banks, Betty (James) Peterson, Leroy Banks, Jr., Murray (Amy) Banks, Charles (Brenda) Banks, Geraldine (Timothy) Banks, Donald Banks, Henry Lee Banks, Jeffery (Alexis) Banks, Jimmy (Heather) Banks, Marcus (Jennifer) Wyche, Toshunda (Adrian) Wyche-Hamilton, Jonathan Banks, Gregory Banks, Tamara Banks and Mariah Banks; 52 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, April 6th, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Shelby Volunteer Fire Hall, 4695 S. Gravel Road, Medina, NY 14103, with his funeral service immediately following at 12:30 p.m. Per the family’s request, masks will be mandatory.
