Kevin Peter Deuel

WEST BARRE – Kevin Peter Deuel of West Barre, previously of East Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. He was 71.

Kevin was born on June 26, 1951, in Albany, New York, the son of George A. and Eileen M. Deuel. He graduated from East Rochester High School in 1969.

Kevin married his wife, Debra, in 1990. They enjoyed several outdoor activities together, including walking, bicycling, camping, kayaking, walking their dogs, and working around their hobby farm.

Kevin was predeceased by his mother, Eileen, and father, George.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; son, Ryan; stepchildren Melanie Elliott and Jason Leavy; brothers Richard (Dick), Brian and Jerry; sisters-in-law Sheila, Julie and Joan; daughter-in-law Kathryn; granddaughters Gwendolyn, Elise, Gracie and Paige; and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin worked for more than 30 years at Eastman Kodak as an electrical technician before retiring early to pursue his degree in respiratory therapy. He graduated with his associates degree in respiratory care from Genesee Community College in 2009 and became a licensed respiratory therapist that same year, working at Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport, Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and Rochester Oxygen and CPAP in Brockport, where he retired in 2019.

Kevin was well-known as an avid musician, playing in a number of local bands since he was a teenager living in East Rochester. Kevin came to appreciate Old Time Appalachian music, playing both the banjo and guitar in several local groups. As a talented woodworker, Kevin constructed several of his own banjos, which he would often lovingly gift to family.

Kevin was also an enthusiastic runner and cyclist, completing several road races over decades including triathlons and a marathon.

Kevin was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and community member who will be missed dearly by so many whose lives he touched.

A memorial service in his honor will be held on Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Society, 186 Madison St., East Rochester NY 14445.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Kevin’s name to Habitat for Humanity or to the Scleroderma Foundation in memory of his mother, Eileen. Arrangements have been entrusted by the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. Albion.
