Kenneth L. Blount Sr.

MEDINA – Kenneth L. Blount Sr., 87, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, after a short illness. He was the son of the late Daniel and Vera (Clute) Blount of Shelby Basin, Medina.

He graduated from Medina High School, class of 1955. After high school, he worked for T.J. Lipton’s in Albion. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Verdon, France, for three years. He was chosen for the Honor Guard for all of his tour of duty.

Kenneth was the past President of the Eastern N.Y. Sporter Rifle League. He enjoyed shooting open sights rifle, which he took home many trophies for. He also was a New York State Hunter Safety Instructor for 14 years. He enjoyed nature at its fullest, including fishing, walking in the woods on his small farm, and feeding the many birds that looked for his daily feast. He also was an avid reader, absorbing everything that interested him, including his boating experiences.

When he returned home from his stint in the Army, he met and married the former Janet L. Loiacono in 1959. He was also employed at the Brake Shoe in Medina, a steel foundry, and left after their closing, having worked there for 27 years. He then worked for Bayex in Albion and retired after 17 years due to health issues.

Kenneth is predeceased by three siblings: a sister, Carol, an older brother, Richard A. Blount and Dr. Warren R. Blount; and a grandson, Aaron Reinhardt.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet; his children, Tina (Patrick) Reinhardt of Gasport, NY; Kenneth Jr. (Denise) Blount of Adkins, Texas; and John (Joanna) Blount of Spencerport, NY. Also surviving are two siblings, Robert (Mary Lou) Blount of Medina, NY, Dawn Evans of Newfane, NY, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and very good friends, Jack (John) Monell and Harold Klein.

Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 11 AM to 12 PM at the Community Fellowship Church, 3144 Johnson Creek Rd, Middleport, NY 14105, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM. Burial will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kenneth’s name to the Richard Knights-Sue Kaderli Memorial Fund, PO Box 684, Medina, NY 14103.
