Kathy Murphy-Rought

Kathy left us too soon on Sat., Jan. 12, 2019 with her husband, Harold, and her family by her side. She was the daughter of William (Eleanor) Murphy and the late Betty Murphy.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Linda (John) Nielsen; brother, Jack (Judy) Murphy; nieces, Lisa (Brett), Beth (Dan), and Rebecca; nephew, Matt (Taka); grandniece, Jessica; grandnephew, Gregory; stepchildren, Sara (Marcus) and Andrew (Caite); and the Dallas family.

Kathy was known for her love of the Wizard of Oz, her Cairn Terriers, the Buffalo Bills and the Velveteen Rabbit. She was a wonderful, compassionate and spiritual soul.

Kathy was a vocational rehabilitation counselor who worked at ACCES-VR, Unified Services of Rensselaer County and Albany High School. She was an unrelenting advocate for people with disabilities.

When she retired, she and her husband took adventures in their RV when they weren’t watching ships on the St Lawrence River.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held Sat., Feb. 2 at the Italian American Community Center in Albany, N.Y.

Donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to the Hudson Mohawk Humane Society in Menands, N.Y.; or to American Heart Association.
