Judith L. Szymanski, 85, of Holley, died Dec. 12, 2018 in the Martin Linsin Hospice Residence following a short illness.

She was born July 12, 1933 in the Town of Greece to Carl and Gertrude (Stigel) Coates and lived in this area all of her life.

Judith enjoyed many activities throughout her life, including bowling, going to the casino, playing bingo, birdwatching, gardening, and traveling to Maine. In addition, she was a very artistic woman who enjoyed taking time to sew, doing all kinds of crafts, and loving her cat, “Puss.” She was a woman who prided herself on making the most out of what she had, and yet she was a very generous and giving person. Judith was fiercely dedicated to spending time with and loving all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived by the motto, “Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness.”

Mrs. Szymanski was predeceased by her husband, Louis; a brother, Henry Coates; and a sister, Arlene Hughes.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Oppel of Batavia, Michael (Tina Reed) Szymanski of Holley, and Steven (Monica) Szymanski of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Szymanski of Holley; seven grandchildren, Rae (Jennifer) Drennen, Jen Oppel, Matt Oppel, Lauren (Sam) Welch, Michael Szymanski, Kate (Bill) Rumsey and Sierra Post; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Mon., Dec. 17 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 16650 State Route 31 (W. Albion Road), Holley, where her memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. following visitation. Interment will be in Sandy Creek Cemetery.
