American flagMEDINA – Joseph J. Franklin, Jr., of Medina passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital with his family at his side at the age of 75. Born August 28, 1946 in Medina, Joe was a son of the late Joseph Franklin, Sr. and Lois (Breitsman) Franklin.

He was a graduate of Medina High School class of 1964. He attended some college before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. Joe served in Vietnam in the Air Cavalry and was honorably discharged in 1969, and would continue to serve in the reserves until 1972. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Joe dedicated decades of his life to the honor and preservation of Medina’s proud military history. Joe had a hard exterior and loved quietly, yet proudly, his family, friends and military brothers and sisters. He cherished his family cottage, where he would spend evenings on the swing with his hunting dogs Katie, Sarah, Snowflake, and Mikey resting at his feet.

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Michael Franklin in 1990; and daughter, Carey Franklin in 2018.

He is survived by his son Christopher (Diana) Franklin of Rochester; and his loving grandbabies, Ava Agusta and Charleigh Franklin.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4th from 10 a.m. to noon at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street Medina, with memorial service immediately to follow at noon. Masks will be required.
