John S. Kettle (September 18, 1946- September 21, 2021) died as he lived, surrounded by family and love. He was 75 years old.

John is predeceased by his parents, J. Sprague and Martha (Rathbun) Kettle and his sister, Marlene K. Weyand.

John is survived by his partner in life and in golf, Cheryl Leadbeter; daughters: Stephanie (Luke) Emerson and Laurie (Michael) Kettle-Rivera; his five most favorite people in the world, grandchildren: Jack, Sam, Jayson, Will and Kayley; brother, Ronald (Earlene) Kettle; sister, Geraldine A. Brown, and several nieces and nephews.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army and the Vietnam War as a Communications Sergeant with the Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry. He was a lifelong member of the Albion Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

John’s professional career focused on business administration through the roles of President, Vice President, and Chief Financial Officer of several banking institutions including Dime Banking and Loan, Anchor Savings Bank, Albion Federal, First Niagara, and Fairport Savings Bank. He retired from Thaney and Associates in 2016. John’s proudest professional moment was building a mortgage servicing center in Albion which brought hundreds of jobs to the area where he grew up and lived.

John was a lifetime sports lover, and faithfully rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, and Syracuse University Basketball. John was also an amazing athlete in his own right; he had eight holes in one throughout his life as a golfer, and was recognized by the American Bowling Congress for a perfect 300 game and 801 series.

As we remember John, we remember he was always the life of the party, and the consummate master of ceremonies. To know him was to love him, and every person he met can tell you a hysterical story about John. His sense of humor and love of life will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held on Wed., Sept. 29, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. at Keenan’s Funeral Home in Fairport, NY. Private family burial will be held at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory may be made to UR Medicine Hospice and the PAN Foundation for glioblastoma support.
