John N. “Gramps” Bartel

John N. “Gramps” Bartel, 67, of Albion passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 13, 2022.  John was born Dec. 18, 1954 in Buffalo, a son of Shirley (Jones) and the late Norman Bartel and had lived in this area most of his life.

John worked as a plumber at Albion Correctional Facility retiring after 25 years.  He loved going to his cabin in Olean, watching the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres; but most of all he loved being with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.  He attended all of their sporting events and took them to Darien Lake often. John always had a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone.

In addition to his dad, he was predeceased by his brother, David Bartel.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 47 years, Debbie; daughter, Stacey (Jake) Olles; son Neil (Rachel) Bartel; grandchildren: Carly, Mia, Maggie, Jackson; mom, Shirley Bartel; brother, Paul Bartel; sister-in-law, Cheri (Massih) Gray; brother-in-law, Roger (Pat) Boehnke; best friend, Kenny Dlugosz; as well as nieces and cousins.
