John Milton Howell, 74, of Madisonville, Tenn. and formerly of Holley, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 14, 2020, surrounded by family. He was born March 12, 1946 to Milton and Ruth Howell in Brockport.

John was an avid fisherman and bowler. Before John became ill, you could often find him out fishing with family or his good friend, Dick Kovaleski. He made so many friends over the years fishing, bowling, and riding motorcycles. He served in the Army from 1965 to 1968 in Okinawa, Japan, and he loved to tell stories about his time over there.

John was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Leatha (Janie) May Howell in 1973; his brothers, Bill, Clarky and Bobby; and his sisters, Mae Miller and Bonnie Howell.

He is survived by his wife, Maudie; his children, Connie (Gerald) Furness of Albion, John Howell of Vonore, Tenn., Scottie Osborne of Albion, and Mike (Nicole) Howell of Madisonville; his grandchildren, Nick (Hailey) Furness, Crystal (Zack Plueckhahn) Furness, Alyssa (Nick Palumbo) Hering, Alec Pinson, Scottie Osborne, Tiffany (Kyle) Roth, Tauhna Micek, Heather Howell, Emily Howell, Kaytelynn Gibson and Michael Kibbe, all of New York; great-grandchildren, Braven Calliste, Clint and Montgomery Furness, and Nora Plueckhahn; his sisters, Marilyn Phillips of Virginia and Rita Mosher of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Mary Cobb of Florida, Rose (John) Sargent, Ruth Ettinger, Lori Ettinger, Diana Moyer and Linda Moyer, all of New York, Sharon (Jerry) Gross, Vivian (Lonnie) Ray and Tina Varney, all of Kentucky; brothers-in-law, Roger (Vicki) Ettinger, Henry (Diane) Ettinger, and Elmer Ettinger, all of New York; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John will be cremated at Cremations by Grandview in Maryville, Tenn. The family will be planning a graveside burial in Hamlin, and a Celebration of Life in New York at a later time.
