John F. “Jack” Fike

MEDINA – John F. “Jack” Fike, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2023 following a courageous battle with a long term illness. Born August 6, 1945 in Herkimer, NY, Jack was a son of the late Harry and Mary (Nagle) Fike.

Sadly, his mother passed when he was only 11. He was then lovingly raised by stepmother, Doris Fike. A graduate of Herkimer High School, Class of 1963, Jack went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in teaching from Brockport University. There, he met the love of his life, the former Becky Peasland. The couple were wed on January 27, 1968 and would make Medina their home.

Mr. Fike began his teaching career in 1967. Well known in the Medina community, Mr. Fike was a 5th grade teacher at both the Warren P. Towne Elementary and Oak Orchard Elementary Schools in Medina, where his wife Becky also taught. He retired in 2001.

Jack was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish, St. Stephen’s Church in Middleport and also St. Mary’s Church in Medina. He enjoyed golfing and was a member the Shelridge Country Club. Jack also enjoyed woodworking, playing softball and other sports and was known to be a devoted spectator at his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 55 years, Becky Fike; two children, Lisa (Jason) Smith and John (Tracey) Fike; six grandchildren, Jake, Allie and Adam Smith, Zachary, Miriam and Camden Fike; his sister, Mary “Sandy” (John) Mitchell; sisters in-law, Suzanne (David) Landers, Marcy Peasland and Kerry Peasland; also several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle St., Medina. Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
