Jean Smith

ALBION – Jean Smith, 88, passed away October 2, 2020 at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence in Albion. She was born October 3, 1931 in Lockport to the late Earl and Anna (Merrill) Fisher.

Jean was an active member of Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church, where she was an officer in the Catholic Daughters and Ladies of Charity. She worked for many years on Planning and Zoning Boards for the Town and Village of Albion and was also an election inspector for more than 50 years.

Jean volunteered her time at various local organizations, including Hospice of Orleans and the Soup Kitchen. She also spent 26 years working at the Genesee Country Museum and many years for Gannett Newspaper in the Albion and Brockport regional offices. Jean enjoyed weaving and spinning, often times at the Erie County Fair Historical Building and when she had the time she loved to travel.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Edward in 2005 and sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Col. Daniel) Bolas, Stephanie (David) Geibel and Kathleen (Gary) Spitz; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Mary Clouse; 3 nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411 on Thursday, October 8th, from 4 to 7 p.m. Jean’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph’s Church W. Park St. Albion, on Friday, October 9th, at 10 a.m. (Face masks and social distancing are mandatory at the funeral home and church). Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
