James W. Whipple, 91, of Lyndonville, passed away peacefully at the Martin-Linsin Residence, Albion, on Thu., April 25, 2019.

Jim was born on July 27, 1927 in Lyndonville to Walter and Martha Whipple. A graduate of Lyndonville High School and Bryant & Stratton Business Institute, he joined his family’s business, Crosby-Whipple Oil Corp. in Lyndonville. He enlisted in the Army and served in Japan during the Korean War. After discharge from the Army, he returned to Lyndonville and married Janet Peters. Together, they had three children, James R., William and Catherine. After the unfortunate passing of Janet, Jim met and married widow Carolyn Francis of Middleport and became the loving father of her children, Robert, Kathryn, Jeffrey and Nancy. Jim and Carolyn’s daughter, Jeanne, completed their family of eight children.

Jim was a 65-year member of American Legion Post #1603, Lyndonville. He was also a longtime member of the Lyndonville Lions Club and Lyndonville United Methodist Church, and he served on the board of Yates Community Library. During his retirement, Jim was a volunteer driver for the Veteran’s Administration, assisting veterans in need of transportation to medical appointments.

Jim is survived by his children, Robert (Mary) Francis, Kathryn (Vern Stein) Francis, Jeffrey (Maureen) Francis, James (Jeanne) Whipple, William (Yvette Kemp) Whipple, Nancy (Phil Hainline) Francis, Catherine (Vic) LaBrecque and Jeanne (Scott) Goetze; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Loving father, grandfather and friend, Jim will be missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends may call at Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St., Lyndonville, on Mon., April 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. A private burial will follow at Lynhaven Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Lyndonville United Methodist Church, 102 N. Main St., Lyndonville, on Sat., July 6 at 10 a.m.
