MEDINA – James M. Hudnut, 67, of Medina, formerly of North Tonawanda, passed away unexpectedly, February 6, 2023.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Mary (Ruocco) Hudnut and cherished children Steven (Emily Wheat) Hudnut and Kathryn Hudnut.

Jim was also the son of the late Ernest and Doris Hudnut, loving brother of the late Carmen (Jerry) Monette, Kathleen (late Daniel) Matikosh, Susan (Harold) Grehlinger, and Barbara Janowsky.

Jim graduated from SUNY Brockport and began his working career as a journalist for the Tonawanda News and the Medina Journal Register. As his young family grew, Jim transitioned to the role of Probation Officer for Orleans County, a role in which he proudly served for over 30 years.

He was an avid sports fan and was especially dedicated to baseball. He attended the Buffalo Bisons opening day game for 39 consecutive years. He enjoyed many seasons of both playing and coaching softball. His children fondly recall that he never missed a practice or a game. Another passion of Jim’s was music – he attended too many live concerts to count and was famous for then obtaining a recorded copy! His collection of records, cassette tapes, and CDs was enviable. He combined his talent for writing and love of music by writing a music review column for Blues Beat Magazine for many years.

Jim could make a friend anywhere and his wisdom, wit and humor will be sadly missed.

Jim’s family would like to extend thanks to the Sodus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their care in the last several years.

Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Road in North Tonawanda on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. with the service immediately following. A private interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Park.
