James D. Carithers Sr.

ALBION – James D. Carithers Sr., age 72, died March 27, 2022 in the Martin Linsin Hospice Residence following a brief illness.  Though born in Rochelle, GA, he grew to find his life calling as a husband, father and hardworking farmer and field foreman.

Meeting his wife, Mary, they soon began a loving relationship and marriage which spanned 44 years of utter and complete devotion.  Together they raised 4 children with unwavering love and support.

 A genuine provider, James worked from sun-up to sun-down to acquire his family’s needs and desires.  His work as a farmer and field foreman was his life’s passion, and the vitality of his spirit and tireless work ethic are reflected in his lifelong dedication of 40+ years.  James enjoyed fishing, hunting, being a master pool player, and going to the casino. He was a spiritual man who was a member of the Faith Power Mission.

His passing is preceded by his child, Baby Carithers, his father, Reverend Lewis Benjamin (L.B.) Carithers  and his mother, 1st lady Laura B. Carithers, as well as his brothers Dodge Carithers and Clinton Carithers and sisters Martha J. Wiley, Annie Laura Flewellen and Evelyn Carter.

James is survived by his loving wife, Mary C. Carithers, his grateful children, Chaka Ray, Tabatha Carithers, Clarence Carithers, Carl (Jessica) Carithers, Carmen Carithers, James (Crystal) Carithers Jr., Malinda Carithers-Long, Lorenzo (Ozella) Miller and Jerome Miller.  The baby of 8 children, he is also survived by his sisters Gladys Davis (Hillside, NJ), Mary Benjamin (Ft. Pierce, FL), and Linda Carithers (Lake Wales, FL), 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, 21 West Avenue-Albion, SATURDAY form 11-1 where his Funeral Service will be held at 1pm followed by interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Supportive Care of Orleans, P.O.
