James A. Johnson, 78, entered into rest on Thu., April 25, 2019 at Medina Memorial Hospital.

Born June 17, 1940 in Warsaw, N.Y., Jim was a son of the late Ezra and Helen (Rix) Johnson. He graduated from Batavia High School, class of 1958. Upon graduation, he went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. Jim was an electronics technician by trade who specialized in TV repair. He owned and operated The TV Doctor in Medina and was employed by Bramer Electric for many years. Jim was a certified umpire for the slowpitch softball leagues. At one time, he served as president for the U.S. Slowpitch Softball Association. He was a longtime patron of Rudy’s Diner and the Country Club Restaurant in Medina, where he made many friends and enjoyed socializing.

He is survived by his wife, Judy (May) Johnson; six children, James (Pamela) Johnson Jr., Jean (Vivon Wenner) Johnson, Jeffrey (Angela) Johnson, Jennie Johnson, Jerrod Johnson and Joy Johnson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald W. Johnson.

Calling hours will be held on Tue., April 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. Pastor Dean Shingleton will officiate. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery on Wed., May 1 at 1 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by members of Lincoln Post #1483, V.F.W. and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion.
