Gregory T. Schmitt

KENT – Gregory T. Schmitt, 75, passed away June 3, 2022, at Unity Hospital. He was born January 31, 1947, in Rochester, NY a son of the late Julius and Lorraine (Quicke) Schmitt.

Greg served in the United States Navy during Vietnam stationed on one of the first Nuclear Submarines, USS James K. Polk. He was again called to serve his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Army National Guard.

He retired as an engineer from RG&E.  Greg enjoyed fixing things and riding his motorcycle. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan; children, Karl Schmitt, Kurt (Cathy) Schmitt, Kara Schmitt, Ashley Schmitt and Kristian Schmitt; grandchildren, Cole, Zach, Kelsey and Katie; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Ella; sisters, Sharon Schott and Jean Crawford; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, 21 W. Avenue, Albion, on Wednesday June 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by his funeral service at 1 p.m. Military honors will be held at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Orleans County Joint Veterans Council, 14016 Rte. 31, Albion, NY 14411.
