Grace E. Pries

Grace PriesGrace E. (Higgins) Pries, 84, of Middleport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 10, 2020 at Buffalo General Hospital, after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 11, 1935 in the Town of Niagara, a daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Wagner) Higgins.

Grace married the late Harold R. Pries Sr. of Niagara Falls on April 4, 1952. Together, they raised eight children. She worked numerous jobs throughout her lifetime at Nabisco, Bells, Ridge Road Express and Fisher-Price, and lastly at Bernzomatic, where she was an active representative for the union. Grace also was an active volunteer at the MAAC Clothing Depot in Medina. She was a strong woman, being the matriarch of the family, loving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching cooking shows. Grace always knitted beautiful baby blankets for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grace is survived by two daughters, Barbara Farley and Phyllis Winters, both of Medina; two sons, William (Julie) Pries of Lyndonville and Daniel (Lori) Pries of Kendall; a son-in-law, Arthur (Pam) Satkowski of Medina; a sister-in-law, Madeline (Ralph) Fava of Niagara Falls; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Linker of Texas and Gerald Pries of Grand Island; 16 beautiful grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren with one more expected in April; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold R. Pries Sr.; a son, Harold R. Pries Jr.; three daughters, Carolyn Pries, Madeline Pries and Nancy Satkowski; a brother, William Higgins; a sister, Barbara Linker; two grandsons, Michael Pries and Justin Pries; one great-grandson, Devante Boston; a son-in-law, Jamie B. Winters; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Higgins; and Grace’s in-laws, Ernest and Marion Pries.

Relatives and friends may call on Wed., Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Medina, 203 W. Center St., Medina NY 14103, where a memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. with the pastor, Rev. Michael Stephenson, officiating. Burial will be at Hartland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Grace’s name to MAAC Clothing Depot, 536 Orient St., Medina NY 14103.
