Gerald F. Scharping

Gerald ScharpingGerald F. Scharping, 91, of Albion, died Sept. 6, 2019 at The Villages of Orleans. He was born June 13, 1928 in Albion, a son of the late William and Edith (Bills) Scharping, and he lived in this area all of his life, living in the same house he was born in.

Gerald was a member of Albion First United Methodist Church and Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension, and he was active in 4-H and the Beef Association. He was a dairy, chicken and beef farmer who worked as District Manager for Orleans County Soil and Water. Gerald reported for the weather service for 50 years.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Lenoyr, in 2011; an infant brother; his sister, Marjorie; and his niece, Marcia.

He is survived by his children, Jeanne (Mark) Nenni of Albion, Diane Scharping of Albion, Bill (Cathy Disalto) Scharping of Syracuse, and Virginia (Nick) Long of Albion; brother-in-law, Robert Leslie; sister-in-law, Candy (Dave) Allen; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Mon., Sept. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, where his funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. His graveside service will be Tue., Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Albion First United Methodist Church, The Villages of Orleans Patient Activities Fund, or Orleans County 4-H.
