Genevieve H. Barber

ALBION – Genevieve H. Barber, 96, passed away January 13, 2023 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born February 13, 1926 in Hamlin, a daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Martin) Hughes and had lived in this area all of her life.

She was a member of the Eagle Harbor United Methodist Church, the Rebeka’s, the snowmobile club and the Family Motor Coach Association. She worked for T.J. Lipton’s for many years and after she retired, she worked at Wegman’s and as a hairdresser from her home.

Genevieve and her husband owned and operated the roller-skating rink in Albion. She enjoyed bowling, golf, camping gardening, square dancing and playing cards, especially Euchre. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George Jr., brother-in-law Chet and her brother Charles.

Genevieve is survived by her daughter Carol (Bob) Engle; granddaughters Brandi (Kris) Gibson and Katie (Matt) Jurs; great-grandchildren Tyler, Nathan, Dominic and Olivia; sister Elsie Boring; nieces Pastor Susan Boring and Darlene (Mark) Nenni; nephew Brett Boring; niece Sharon Plummer as well as a great-niece and great-nephew.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Ave. Albion on Monday, January 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 am at the Eagle Harbor United Methodist Church, 13407 Eagle Harbor-Knowlesville Rd., Albion NY 14411.
