Francis J. Balcerzak

MEDINA – Francis J. Balcerzak, of Medina, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on Monday, December 9, 2022. Born November 18, 1933 in Medina, he was a son of the late Anthony and Agnes (Cotriss) Balcerzak.

Mr. Balcerzak was a graduate of Medina High School, class of 1953. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1953-1957. On February 8, 1961 he married the former Ann Beyer. The couple resided in Medina and were parishioners of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus R.C. Church.

Early on, Mr. Balcerzak worked for Frank J. Balcerzak & Son Construction Co. before starting a career as a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union #17 in Niagara Falls, retiring after 40 years. Mr. Balcerzak was a member of Lincoln Post #1483, V.F.W., Junior Wilson Sportsman’s Club and the Sacred Heart Club. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed the outdoors, the Buffalo Bills and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter Julie (late Charles) Calvert of Warsaw; grandsons, Jesse Calvert (Brianna Curle) of SC and Michael (Cortney) Calvert of Arcade; step-granddaughter, Alicia McRoy; four great-grandchildren, Caroline and Watson Calvert, Natalie Hiller and Charlotte McRoy; a brother, Michael (Carolyn) Balcerzak; sister in-law, Patricia Balcerzak; many nieces and nephews; and longtime caregivers, Laurel Bane and Ashley Petrie.

Predeceased by wife, Ann Balcerzak in 2003; and nine siblings, Joseph (Dorothy), Mary (William) Knights, Eleanor (Robert) Rignall, Helen (Thomas) Morien, Kate (William) Gun, Anthony, Jr., Loretta (Leo) Koneski, Leonard (Kathy) and Donald (Nedra) Balcerzak.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his memorial service will immediately follow at noon. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

**SERVICE UPDATE** Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 14 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle St., Medina.
