Elizabeth “Betty” Rush, 85, of Waterport, passed away at Strong Memorial Hospital on Wed., July 15, 2020. She was born to the late Cornelius and Mary (Stack) Newton in Rochester, N.Y.

Betty enjoyed and participated in many social and community organizations. She played softball as a “Black North Bomber” and enjoyed playing golf in a couples’ league for several years with her husband. She was a Lifetime Member of the Carlton Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the AGMH Honeysuckle Twig, and a devoted member of Holy Family Parish. She loved playing cards, going to the casino, shopping, traveling, collecting recipes, watching the birds enjoy her feeders, growing beautiful flower gardens and sitting in the sun. She was an excellent baker, known for her delicious pies, cookies, frosted brownies and more.

She held a variety of positions and jobs during her lifetime, including office work at DynaColor, 10 years as the ACSD tax collector, and secretary to a former Carlton Town Supervisor, and she retired after 19 years from Orleans County Child & Family Services as a Senior Support Collector.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Neil and John Newton; and survived by her sisters, Rita (Rick) Soule and Janet (Tom) Goulet; her brother, David (Susan) Newton; and her sisters-in-law, Judy Newton and Joan Newton-Newman.

She is also survived by Kenneth Rush, her loving husband of 67 years; children, Robin (Randy) Wright, Susan (Larry) Gaylard, Kelly (James) Peruzzini, Terri (Carl Beecher) Rush and Gregg (Elizabeth) Rush. She was a loving, caring, generous and devoted grandmother of 25 and great-grandmother of 20. She also held a special place in her heart and on her lap for Marley, her little Dachshund.

Betty’s family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion NY 14411, on Fri., July 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. Please note that all guests upon entering the funeral home are required to wear a mask or facial covering. A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph’s Church on Sat., July 18, followed by interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
