Earl A. Harmer

Earl A. Harmer, 88, of Prattsburgh, NY, formerly of Medina, NY, passed away on Wed., June 29, 2022, at the Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, NY.

Mr. Harmer was born on April 19, 1934, in Medina, NY, to the late Earl W. and Elizabeth (Wilson) Harmer. Earl graduated from Medina High School class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1958. On November 24, 1956, he married the former Janice Swan at the First Baptist Church in Medina, NY.  Earl and Janice were the very first couple to be married by the late Rev. H. Burton Entrekin. Mr. Harmer worked as an inspector at Harrison Radiator Division of GMC in Lockport for 31 years and belonged to United Auto Workers (UAW) Local #686. An active parishioner at the First Baptist Church, Mr. Harmer served on the Board of Trustees and as a Deacon. He also did volunteer work with Medina Area Association of Churches (MAAC).

Earl and Janice enjoyed camping and were members of the Apple Pushers and Family Campers & RVers (FCRV). In 2008 the couple moved to Prattsburgh, NY to be closer to their daughter. While in Prattsburgh, they were members of the Prattsburgh Rotary Club, active in the Food Pantry and within various churches. They also enjoyed many shows at the Family Life Center.

Those left to cherish Earl’s memory include his wife, Janice Harmer of Prattsburgh, NY; children,:Michael (Leslie) Harmer of Medina, Sandra (Gregory) Squires of Prattsburgh and Douglas (SonA) Harmer of Wichita Falls, TX; grandchildren: Cassandra (George) McCrory, Mark (Becca) Squires, Linnay (John) Kirst, Marcia (John) Roll, Elizabeth (Andrew) Dunn, Sarah Harmer (Ben Dickey); great-grandchildren: Madison, Ed, Lexi, Abigail, Vince, Braeden, Elliott, Leora, Jameson and Jack; brother ,Everett Harmer (Joan Keller); and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on Wed., July 6, 2022, at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church, 203 W. Center St., Medina, NY. Interment with full military honors will follow in West Ridgeway Cemetery.
