Duane “Butch” Schultz

MIDDLEPORT – Duane “Butch” Schultz, 70, of Middleport, NY, lost his battle to Multiple Myeloma on December 23, 2022, after being blessed with a week-long family celebration in California with his children and grandchildren. Butch was born and raised in Middleport, a son of the late Ruth and Levern Schultz.

He worked as a tool and die maker, machinist, and since his retirement could be found tinkering on something in the garage whenever he was home. Ever since a young age, Butch lived life to the fullest on his terms with one foot on the gas and one foot in the grave. He loved fast cars, admiring women, and driving around discovering treasures that others had discarded and giving them new life. He could be found in his garage for hours working on cars, tractors, building a new creation he had come up with or just daydreaming of his next big invention (but mostly day dreaming).

Despite all his doubters and critics, Butch always went everywhere with love. He always talked to strangers and rough necks, was always kind. No matter what the activity of the day was, he was never in a hurry and always did it his way. Of all things, Butch’s greatest accomplishment in life was his family.

He is survived by his daughters Heidi (Anthony Wasch) Coleman, Jodi (Michael) Schultz-Waild, sons Christopher (Adrienne) Schultz and Nicholas (Aimee) Schultz, and son-in-law Steven Coleman; grandchildren Keith and Tori Coleman, Austin and Tarin Waild, and Zoe Schultz; sisters Anita (Chris) Jones, Eileen (Eric) Ambrose, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Duane is predeceased by his wife Kay Loraine Gurnsey Schultz and granddaughter Sophie Schultz.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Medina Memorial Hospital Emergency Department and Buffalo General Hospital ICU for their extraordinary care and attention during this most difficult time.  To the Medina Fire Department for providing Butch with one last FAST SMOOTH RIDE.

In accordance with Butch’s wishes no prior visitation will be held, but family and friends are invited to gather for a family reunion style celebration of life on Sunday, July 9, from noon to 4 p.m. at 3645 Wruck Rd, Middleport. Please come as you are as he wouldn’t have wanted you any other way. Bring your favorite dish to pass along with stories to share.

Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
