Douglas L. Coon, 85, of Medina, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2019 at his home, with his loving family at his side.

Born on Nov. 11, 1933 in the Town of Ridgeway, he was the son of the late W. Sheldon and Rhea (Gray) Coon.

He grew up in Shelby Basin and, at the age of 17, worked at FMC. Douglas enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Helena CA75. After four years of service, he returned home and started a family with his first wife. In 1974, he married his current wife, the former Theresa Barkley, and continued to work at FMC. He retired in 1995.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, hunting, and playing cards. Doug was also a member of Community Fellowship Church.

Doug is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa; nine children, Paul (Marina) Coon of Kings Land, Ga., Colleen Doerschler of Galesburg, Mich., Pamela (Karl) Koch of Depew, N.Y., Douglas (Barb) Michaud of Medina, Maryjane Buzard of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ann Kennedy of Batavia, Hazel (Terry) Cox of Summerville, S.C., Kathy Michaud of Knowlesville, and Edward (Beth) Lake of Bouckville, N.Y.; six siblings, Robert Coon of Medina, Duane (Debbie) Coon of Middleport, Lucinda Egan of Medina, Raymond Coon of the Southern Tier, Shirley Raetz of Lockport, and Alice (John) Tirtadjaja of Lockport; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Doug is predeceased by his first wife, the former Beverly Luff; a brother, Roger Coon; and a sister, Carol Szalay.

Relatives and friends may call on Sat., Jan. 5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Community Fellowship Church, 3144 Johnson Creek Road, Middleport NY 14105, where a funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with Doug’s nephew, the Pastor Rev. Joe Szalay, officiating. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by members of Lincoln Post #1483 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Butts-Clark Post #204 American Legion.

Memorials may be made in Doug’s name to Community Fellowship Church.
