Dolores Jones passed peacefully on Thursday April 27, 2023, after a short illness. She was born in Syracuse, NY on May 23, 1936, to Allen & Dorothy Newvine, one of eight children. Dolores married Wayne E. Jones and they had five children together. After Chief Warrant Officer Jones died in Vietnam she married Joe Smith, and they had one child.

In her life Dolores lived in Alaska before it became a state. Also, Alabama and Germany until her Army husband received orders to Vietnam, and they moved the family to Saranac Lake, NY. She and her children lived there until 1979 when she moved to the Rochester, NY area.

As a single mother, Dolores raised six children in heroic fashion. She always seemed to manage the family budget successfully, providing for her children in every way. An avid golfer and bowler, Dorie, her preferred nickname,  found ways to enjoy these activities until her health began to fail.

She worked as a secretary in the Saranac Lake hospital and at the American Management Association. She retired from her job with Monroe County New York after 20 years.

She is survived by her six children, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, and one sister.

Dolores will be forever missed by her family and by her many friends.  A celebration of life will be held later this year.

Dolores’s arrangements have been entrusted to Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home of Albion.  To share a special memory of Dolores, please visit: www.mitchellfamilyfuneralhomes.com
