D. John “Jack” King

D. John “Jack” King, 88 of Glastonbury, CT, formerly of Medina, NY, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Middlesex Hospital, CT.

Born on February 8th, 1934 in Barker, NY, he was the son of the late Dudley and Mildred (Ray) King.

Jack graduated from Medina High School in 1952. On June 12, 1954 he married the former Joan Reed and together they settled in Medina raising four children. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and upon returning home he worked for Michael Ferri at Bells Supermarket in Medina. In 1971, Jack and Joan bought a mom & pop grocery store in Portageville, NY., After a number of years, they purchased a Bells Supermarket in Dansville, NY.  They retired in 1993 and moved to Fort Myers, FL and returned to Albion in 2005. Lastly, Jack settled in Glastonbury, CT in 2021. He was a member of the Medina Methodist Church and in his spare time he enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially Euchre.

Jack is survived by four children, Bruce (Laurie) King of Clinton, CT; Barbara (Charles) Patnode of Phelps, NY; Lisa King of Manulius, NY; and Krista (Jeffery) Falzarano of Aurora, CO; eight grandchildren, Erica King, Andrea Klips, Andrew King, Michael Niedermaier, Kelly Campbell, Alisha Tierney, Sydney Falzarano and Nicole Falzarano, five great-grandchildren, Alanna, Brianna, Bronson, Alexis, and Emma. Also surviving are two siblings, Sandra Carnes of N. Fort Myers, FL and Robert (Karen) King of Bridgeville, DE; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jack is predeceased by his wife, Joan, a sister, Sally Lindsay and a brother-in-law, James Lindsay.

There are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorials may be made in Jack’s name to the Orleans County Joint Veterans Council, 13996 Rt. 31 West, Albion, NY, 14411.
