Cindy Oppel

BATAVIA – Cindy Oppel, 67, died January 24, 2023 in Rochester General Hospital following a brief illness. She was born October 9, 1955 in Rochester to Louis and Judith (Coates) Szymanski and was a life-long resident of this area. 

Cindy loved music, in particular Ozzie Osborne and Rob Zombie, she also enjoyed making art, sewing, as well as movies, dancing, and presenting herself appropriately as an elegant lady.  She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, was an avid animal lover, and was a fierce and protective mother who absolutely adored her grandchildren and her great grandson. 

She is survived by her children: Rae (Jen) Drennen of Batavia, Jen Oppel of Spencerport, Matt Oppel of Batavia; brothers: Mike Szymanski of Holley, Steven (Monica) Szymanski of Rochester; sister-in-law: Cindy Szymanski of Holley; 5 grandchildren: Irie, Cody, Noah, Ian and Addy; great-grandson: Jax; a family friend: Tina Reed as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family will be present to receive friends and share memories and stories of Cindy on Monday, Jan. 30, at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, 16650 State Route 31-Holley from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by her memorial service at 7 p.m.  A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Holley Community Center, 75 Public Square, Holley, NY, 14470.  To share a special memory of Cindy, please visit: www.mitchellfamilyfuneralhomes.com
