Charles R. Wilson Jr., 77, of the Town of Shelby, entered into rest peacefully on Wed., March 20, 2019 at home, with his loving family by his side.

Born May 17, 1941 in Clintonville, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charles R. and Bertie A. (Harford) Wilson Sr. Charles graduated from Greenbrier High School in the class of 1958. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Charles married the former Cecelia Fuller on Oct. 12, 1963, and together they raised a family of five children. Charles worked for Harrison Radiator Division of G.M.C., from which he retired in 1992. He was past president and line officer of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Company, where he was a proud member for over 50 years. Charles was also a past president of the Orleans County Firemen’s Association. He was a Town of Shelby councilman, a member of the Genesee Valley Metal Detectors Association, past president of the Gold Prospectors Association of Western New York, and president of the South Forty R.V. Association in Tucson, Ariz.

Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, metal detecting, and gold prospecting. He enjoyed working with young people in his community and sharing his love for the outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be remembered fondly for always making those around him laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia A. Wilson; his five children, Shelly (Howard) Daggs of Waterport, Darlene (Charles) Hartway of Medina, Charles (Carrie) Wilson III of Medina, William (Jennifer) Wilson of Medina and Susan (Dan) Egan of Forestville; nineteen grandchildren, Nathanial (Megan) Hartway, Justin (Kristin) Hartway, Katie (Alex) Misiti, Travis Hartway, Bailey (Robert) Bannister, Franklin Hartway, Martha Hartway, Howard (Kimberly) Daggs IV, Jennifer (Matt) Gage, Emma Wilson, Luke Wilson, Parker Wilson, Oliver Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Alexander Wilson, Alyson McAdoo, Michael McAdoo, Jackson Egan and Cecelia Egan; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Dwight (Ruth) Wilson of Canandaigua; and many dear family members and friends, especially the extended Fuller family.

A Celebration of Life Service and dinner in memory of Charles will be held on Fri., March 29 at 6 p.m. at the Shelby Volunteer Fire Hall, 4695 S. Gravel Road, Medina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Orleans, P.O. Box 489, Albion NY 14411.
