Carl A. “Uncle Joe” “Hoss” VanOrden

HAMLIN – Carl A. “Uncle Joe”, “Hoss” VanOrden died September 17, 2020 at Unity Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born January 20, 1954 in Brockport, a son of the late Edward Eugene and Florence Louise (Porter) VanOrden.

Carl graduated Kendall High School in 1972. He worked at Eastman Kodak for many years and after, drove truck for Flamingo Trucking Company; he loved to travel the open road. He enjoyed repairing lawn mowers, hunting and loved to dance, play his guitar, sing karaoke and listen to country music; frequenting the Kendall Inn, Josie’s on the Ridge and the Dakota.

Carl loved going to the races at Ransomville, Lancaster, Genesee and Perry Speedway. Halloween was his favorite. He would dress up in a costume and sit outside with the candy dish on his lap, scaring anyone he could. All the kids loved trick or treating at his house, because he always handed out the full-sized candy bars.

He will be remembered for making people laugh, being an instigator then sitting back and watching it all unfold and his big heart. He had strong family values and was very dedicated and loyal to his family. Carl was the biggest supporter in any activity they participate in; he truly loved his family and the time he spent with them.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings Marsha (Purcil) Buzard, Carol (Charles) Buzard, Douglas; sister-in-law Mary Jane; brother-in-law Clifford Denton.

He is survived by his son, Jimmy (Rachel) VanOrden; granddaughter, Brooklyn; siblings, Helen Denton, Charles “Buck” (Peggy) VanOrden, Joyce (Albert “Tom”) Witt, Phillip (Joanne) VanOrden, Frances (John) McIlmurray, Kevin VanOrden, and William (Gretchen) VanOrden; his Bonus Girls, Diane, Beth (Carl) and Angela (Jason) as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

His Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 27th, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hamlin Beach State Park, Pavilion #1. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 160 Allens Creek Rd., Rochester NY 14618. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. Holley.
