CHARLTON – With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Greene family announces the passing of our fearsome, funny, generous and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Barbara Jean Greene (Botsford), 65 of Charlton, NY passed away on July 8, 2023 at her summer residence in Woodstock Lake, East Berne NY.

The youngest of three, Barb was born in Medina, NY to Gerald Botsford and Leila (Kopp) Botsford on November 3, 1957 and was a 1975graduate of Medina High School.

She attended college at St Paul Ramsey Hospital Minneapolis/St Paul MN earning a degree as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician. In 1981, Barb met Donald Greene (Don) in Utica and often said she knew she was going to marry him when they talked for hours, eventually closing down the restaurant.

Barb and Don married in 1983 and in their 40+ year relationship were blessed with two children, Michael (Sarah Finch) Greene of Rotterdam, NY and Nicole Greene of Queens, NY. Barb was a force to be reckoned with. She was a remarkable mother, epic friend, and an amazing grandparent. Anyone who matter soon learned that she adored her four grandchildren, Jamie, Michael Jr, Alyssa, and Sawyer Greene.

Barb had over 30 years of proud, compassionate, ethical and highly skilled service to her patients predominantly in the offices of Dr Palumbo (Utica) and Dr. Fratterigo (Schenectady).  During retirement she was often approached and thanked by former patients. She enjoyed travel, camping, was an avid and skilled card player (enjoying cribbage and other games) at her camp in East Berne, in Florida and anywhere else she might be. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino, attending ball games, kayaking, biking and in her earlier day’s playing softball and volleyball. The family acknowledges all of Barb’s special friends and family from around the world whom she so loved spending time with.

Barb was predeceased by her father Gerald, grandparents, beloved brother-in-law Bob Urtz and nephew Robert Urtz III. In addition to Don, her children, and grandchildren she is survived by her mother Leila and siblings Carol Urtz and David (Penny) Botsford, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

As Barb wished, a memorial service and visitation in lieu of a full mass and graveside burial will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home on July 16, 2023 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. after which friends and family will have an opportunity and are encouraged to say a few words. Family and friends are invited to gather at Beukendaal Volunteer Fire Department following the memorial service and visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Barb’s name.
