Ann E. Reigle
MEDINA – Ann E. Reigle, 81, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the Medina Memorial Hospital.
Ann was born on December 5, 1941 to the late Edwin C. and Elsie E. (Wright) Pettit in Medina, New York.
She attended Medina Schools and graduated in 1960 in the top ten of her class. On September 3, 1960, Ann married Lester J. Reigle, a neighborhood young man she’d known since she was 11 and he was 13. Together they had three sons.
Ann enjoyed being a wife and mother and took the roles very seriously. Her family was very important to her. She especially enjoyed having lunch with her grandchildren and babysitting for her great-grandchildren.
In 1969 Ann began attending classes part-time at Genesee Community College graduating in 1983 along with her eldest son.
In 1972 Ann began working for Orleans County Head Start program as a preschool teacher, home visitor and Education Coordinator. She worked there for thirteen years. Ann then attended Brockport State College full-time and graduated in 1986 with a BS in Social Work. While there she was awarded the Outstanding Adult Student Award. She worked at Catholic Charities in Batavia for one year as a counselor when she was accepted as an accelerated student in the Social Work Master’s Degree Program at the University of Buffalo. She graduated in 1988 and later became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Her social work experience included Medina Hospital Home Health Care Program, Batavia Mental Health Clinic, Orleans County Mental Health Clinic as Clinic Coordinator, Rainbow Preschool as Play Therapist, Adjunct Instructor at G.C.C. teaching psychology classes, Orleans County Nursing Home as Social Work Director and Medina Hospital’s Behavioral Unit as Senior Social Worker. In 1990 Ann opened her own counseling business in her home, operating for 23 years.
Ann volunteered for the American Red Cross as a Mental Health Technician. In 2001 she served in Thibodaux, Louisiana following a flood and in September 2001 she served in New York City for two weeks following the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Towers, counseling families of the missing. This was the most challenging and emotional experience of her career and she was awarded a NYS Senate Liberty Award. Ann also served two weeks in New Iberia, Louisiana in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina.
Ann enjoyed gardening and reading. Following her retirement she bought a retired show horse, “Nut N Honey” a Tennessee Walker. Fulfilling a childhood dream, she enjoyed taking care of her horse.
Ann is survived by three sons, Ronald S. (Lorie) Reigle of Middleport, Russell C. Reigle (Nancy) of Medina and Roger C. (Cindy) Reigle of Medina; six grandchildren, Stephen Reigle of Middleport, Brian (Andrea) Reigle of Middleport, Derek Reigle of Lockport, Lindsey (Pat) Little of Gasport, Jessica (Bruce) Jurs of Brockport and Kyle Reigle of Portland, Oregon; seven beautiful great-grandchildren, Cadence and Cydne Reigle; Audrey and Elsie Little, Piper and Hunter Jurs and Melania Nowak; a sister, Carol Lonnen (Al) Rowcliff of Medina; and several sister- and brother-in-laws, and lots of nieces and nephews.
Ann was predeceased by her husband Les, in August 2018, after 58 years of marriage.
As per Ann’s wishes, there are no calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers donations to Multiple Sclerosis Association, Roswell Park and Knights/Kaderli Memorial would be greatly appreciated.
