George Gerald DeFilipps (Jerry “D”)

GREENSBORO – George Gerald DeFilipps (Jerry “D”) passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the age of 84 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Jerry worked in Maintenance and Engineering at 3M Company in Rochester, New York, for 35 years before retiring in 1995 and moving to Cincinnati, Ohio with his partner. While in Cincinnati, they were members of Westwood Citizens on Patrol. In 2019, they relocated to Greensboro. Jerry enjoyed Camaro cars, card games (Euchre and 500 Rummy), movies, popular music of the 1960s–1980s, ravioli, Bombay Sapphire, and the warmth of the sun. His lively spirit and generous nature touched everyone who met him. Jerry loved the world, and in return the world loved him back.

He is survived by his brother Lewis (Marsha) DeFilipps; his brother-in-law (Les Buell); his nieces Jodi (Greg) Foster, Anne (Mike) Schutz, Cathy Buell, and Karen Buell MacWilliam; his nephews Paul DeFilipps, Jim (Marie) DeFilipps; his grandniece Gianna DeFilipps; and his grandnephews Greg Foster II (partner Jessica Wilson), Brandon Foster, Aaron Schutz (fiancée Regina Shelton), Nick (Kayla) Schutz, Jake DeFilipps, Ethan MacWilliam, Jackson MacWilliam, and Jacob MacWilliam. Jerry is also survived by his partner of 37 years, Bruce McClung; Bruce’s sister, Barbara McClung; and Barbara’s daughter, Kyle McBard (partner Jarrett Allen). Jerry was predeceased by his father, George Guy DeFilipps; his mother, Sara Jane DeFilipps; and his sister, Sara Jane Buell.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 11 South Main Street, in Holley, New York on Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 am; and a Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 6301 Parkman Place, in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Sunday, September 15, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Beacon Place Hospice of Greensboro.
