John Edward “Ed” Lozaw

My loving Dad, John Edward “Ed” Lozaw, went to be with our heavenly Mom on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo, NY.  May God open his arms for this incredible angel.

This amazing man was born in Uniontown Pennsylvania on February 27, 1935 and moved to Niagara Falls in 1942 where he attended St. John De LaSalle and then off to Bishop Duffy where he graduated in 1953. Entering the US Army in 1954 while serving in the Korean War, Dad received three letters of appreciation for his commanding officers and also received the Good Conduct Medal. Sargent Lozaw was discharged in 1957. He then went to DeVRY technical school and got his diploma in Television and Radio serving. In 1958 Dad started his long career with the International Operating Engineers Local 463 and became a member of the IUOE executive board where he served the union as Auditor, Vice President, President, Business Agent and after all his hard work and loyalty he retired as Business Manager.

After the longest engagement ever, Mom and Dad married on October 28, 1972. He then built Mom her dream home and loved to decorate for Christmas with a huge display of outdoor lights and characters along with his Irish Christmas tree and awesome display of Department 56. Together Mom and Dad enjoyed this holiday the most. When Mom became ill, Dad was a constant visual by her side and showed her such love and kindness. He was devastated by her death.

Through Dad’s generosity and hard work, he received multiple awards. In 1977 he was awarded by the Make A Wish Foundation for outstanding support in making children’s dreams come true. The AFL CIO awarded him with citizen of the year for his continued effort of community service, projects and programs. On December 19, 1977 Niagara Legislature declared Ed Lozaw Day for all his community service with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Make a Wish Foundation or Western New York, Niagara Military Affairs Council, Salvation Army, Oppenheim Zoologic Committee, Niagara Orleans Labor council and Niagara Community YMCA computers for children. After retiring Dad’s generosity didn’t stop as he volunteered for Niagara Hospice where he received

Volunteer of the year award in 1999 and the Directors award in 2008. Dad also provided the cornerstone of support and networking information for the book Hard Hats of Niagara. He shared his personal archives of photos and historical information.

Dad is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Gary) Cornelius, his step-sons James (Ita) Paron and Jerry (Linda) Paron who will miss him deeply. Grandchildren Julie (Quintin) Tyler, Marcy Paron (Jeffrey Miller), Chad (Erin) Cornelius, Janelle (Josef) Foster, Michelle Crosby, Rebecca (Aaron) Cook and Nicole (Ryan) Mattison and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Prentice, sister’s-in-law, Margaret (Peg) Lozaw and Carol Ingraham and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Dad is predeceased by his loving wife Marie and his parents Margaret Lozaw Horne, John Edward Lozaw and Edward Horne, his sisters Eileen Capuson, Marjorie Fisher, Alice Townsend and Helen Conklin and his brothers William Lozaw, James Lozaw, Robert Horne and James Horn.

As you can see Dad lived a full and wonderful life. I gave him a song on Christmas Day years ago called He Didn’t Have To Be by Brad Paisley. It showed his love for me. Anyone can be a Father but it takes a very special man to be a Dad. He loved me and supported me through all my missteps in life. He was patient, loving and kind. Thank you for being my Dad. I will love you forever.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday, November 20th, 2023 from 4 PM-8 PM at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Medina, NY 14103, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 11:00 AM with Rev. Jan Trela officiating. Burial will be in the Cold Springs Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial may be made in John’s name to Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd. Buffalo, NY 14227.
