It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of Fredrick Joseph Carlo of McMinnville, OR, on January 30,2023. Fred was born on March 9,1950 to Helen (Yoffredo) and Edward Carlo. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Ed, and sister Carolyn (Vandetta). He is survived by sisters Claire (Rick)Safe and Mary ‘Maria’ Carlo (Windsor Wade), uncle Bernie Yoffredo, nephew Shawn (Andrea) Lischer, as well as several cousins, great nieces and nephews, and a beloved community of friends.

Fred was active in sports at Holley High School, graduating in 1968, and designated by the Yearbook staff as the guy with ‘the mischievous twinkle in his eye’. After an extended European trip, he moved to the Northwest, settling in Portland, where he became a pioneer in the region’s culinary scene. His business, Salumeria di Carlo, produced prosciutto and several varieties of Italian sausage inspired by his grandparents and his multiple trips to Italy, His sausage sandwiches became a must-have at Portland’s Farmers Market.

Fred always joked that his four greatest passions were red wine, pork, baseball, and women. We can also add the Oregon Coast, the Metolious River, and everything about Italy, his favorite city being Florence. It was in Tuscany that he apprenticed under Dario Cecchini, a renowned Italian butcher

We will forever remember Fred for his big heart, his generous table that created new and lasting friendships, his storytelling, and sense of humor. His laughter will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at a later date.

LYNDONVILLE – David C. “Dave” Bentley, 92, of Lyndonville, NY went to be with the Lord at the Supportive Care of Orleans, Albion, NY with his loving family at his side.

Born on July 4, 1930 in Lyndonville, NY, he was the son of the late Louis and Frances (Young) Bentley.

David grew up in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndonville High School. He worked for the Walker-Gordon Dairy Farm, where he took care of the famous Elsie the Bored Cow. David enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a Second-Class Airman. Upon returning home, he married the former Virginia Ames and together they raised two daughters.

He was employed as a Stationary Engineer for Harrison Radiator for 35 years. After Virginia’s passing, he married the former Carolyn Rowland Meyer and together they made their home in Lyndonville. David was a former member of the Yates Baptist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, especially while farming and camping. He also enjoyed reading and puzzle books.

David is survived by his wife of 27 Years, Carolyn Bentley; two daughters, Brenda (James) Knapp of Lyndonville and Rebecca Bentley of Medina; grandchildren, Brittany Osby, Nathaniel Bentley, Stormy Osby, Henry Greene, Anthony Bentley Solomon and T. Roman Bentley Solomon; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Bentley of Sodus Bay, NY; step brother, Blaine (Nancy) Worth of Lyndonville, NY; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jean Bentley and Mary Bentley of PA; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

David is predeceased by his brothers, Curtis, Donald and Elton Bentley.

CLARENDON – Virginia Kathryn Legg, 86, passed away February 3, 2023 at Unity Hospital. She was born July 29, 1936 in Summersville, WV, a daughter of the late Anthony and Kathern Legg and had lived in this area most of her life.

Virginia was the greatest mother and grandmother. Her family was everything to her and she loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia enjoyed flowers and gardening and her greatest joy was helping someone in need.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her life partner, Louis Holley; her son, Charles Underwood; brothers, James Legg, Homer Legg; sister, Delores Lipucci; daughter-in-law, Amy Underwood.

Virginia is survived by her children Howard Underwood, Jesse (Leslie) Underwood, Teresa (Ken) Holley, Joel (Marge) Underwood, Kim Underwood, Richard (Kathy) Underwood, Julie (Jerry) Moon, Mark (Lori) Underwood, Mary (Jason) Pallister; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; brother Robert Legg; sisters-in-law Kay Legg, Sandy Legg Johnson and her beloved cat Oscarette.

MEDINA – John Q. “Jack” Dresser III, age 98, of Medina, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Medina Memorial Hospital- North Wing Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born on January 6, 1925 in Batavia, he was the only child of the late John Q. Dresser II and Florence E. (Mercer) Dresser.

Mr. Dresser graduated from Medina High School in the class of 1942. A lifelong farmer, Mr. Dresser was the fourth generation to work the family farm. He was the first in the family to introduce dairy cows in addition to the various cash crops they had previously farmed.

On November 29, 1952 he married the former Emily June Zipfel. Mr. Dresser was a lifelong member of the Millville Methodist Church, as were his forefathers. He was also a Mason belonging to the former Medina Lodge #336 F&AM. Mr. Dresser was a member of the Orleans County Farm Bureau and the Upstate Milk Cooperative. In 2003 he received the New York State Agricultural Society’s Century Farm Award for distinguished agricultural heritage.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, E. June Dresser in 2019; daughter, Mary Bacon in 1998; and granddaughter, Emily Bacon in 2006.

Survivors include two sons, James (Paula) Dresser and Daniel (Nancy) Dresser, Sr.; son in-law, Paul Bacon; six grandchildren, Cynthia (James) Brinkerhoff, Adam (Heather) Dresser, Sara (Benjamin) Flansburg, Kaitlyn (Corey) Miller, Daniel (Nicole) Dresser, Jr. and Dorothy (Matthew) Slegle; thirteen great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Henry Dresser, Molly June and Landon Flansburg, Natalie, Lane and Claire Miller, Thomas and Caroline Dresser, Brooke, Addison and Tucker Slegle and Auden Brinkerhoff; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the home health aides and staff at North Wing SNF for their exceptional and compassionate care given to Jack throughout his final years.

MEDINA – Vivon L. “Wimp” Wenner, 89, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY.

Born on January 23, 1934 in Tioga, County, PA, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Grace (Shephardson) Wenner.

Wimp graduated from Smethport High School, PA in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, having sailed the Seven Seas. On returning he moved to the Medina area with his late wife, the former Lettie G. (Moore) Wenner, who passed in 2002. He was employed as a welder with Harrison Radiator for 42 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Middleport Methodist Church and enjoyed his retirement years.

Wimp is survived by his three children, Donald Wenner of Batavia, NY, Vivian (Kevin) Callahan of LeRoy, NY, Vivon (Jean) Wenner II of Medina, NY, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are eight siblings, Shelba Roselli of Georgia, Barba (Danny) Paget of Johnsburg, PA, Betty (Dave) DeGray of Arizona, Velva Norlin of Johnsburg, PA, Beverly Wenner of Florida, Donald (Linda) Wenner of Johnsburg, PA, Bobby Wenner of Mount Jewett, PA, Sandy (Dave) Thorwart of Johnsburg, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Vivon is predeceased by a daughter, Vicky Richards and four siblings, Shirley Priest, John Wenner, Linda Kilhoffer and Darwin Wenner.

MIDDLEPORT – Christopher Robert Fergen, 60, of Middleport, NY, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023, with his loving wife at his bedside, ending his two-and-a-half-year battle with stage IV liver cancer. He was a true medical miracle beating all the odds.

Born on May 26, 1962, in Medina, he was the son of the late Robert Charles Fergen and Rayleen Eleanor Boles Fergen Hill.

Fergie graduated from LA Webber Jr/Sr High School in 1980 in Lyndonville, NY, where he grew up surrounded by a supportive community of great teachers, neighbors, and life-long friends. He was so happy to make the Class of 1980 reunion last summer. He talked about it for months and set a goal to make the next one.

Chris had many jobs during his sixty years of life. His favorite one was raising his kids, Saira, Rayleen, and Jessie, with help and support from their grandparents, Cheryl and Don Cherry. He enjoyed going to their school events and being a soccer dad. He met and fell in love with his wife Tina Washburn while working together at HPI in Medina, and they were married in 2015, and he happily accepted the role of father to Richard, Ayla, Randy, and Sylvia and loved having all these kids!

Chris is survived by his wife Tina and his seven children, Saira (Brian) Borsching, Rayleen Fergen, Jessie (Megan) Fergen, Richard Wright, Ayla (Robbie) Roessler, Randy Wright, and Sylvia Wright, all of New York. Chris was proud to have thirteen grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

He had an extended family of siblings, Ronald Fergen, Karl Fergen, and the late Donna Roper, all from the Rochester area. He had four sisters in his immediate family- Shelley (Robert) Shepard of Tennessee, Barb (Fran) Pecoraro of New York, Dale (Jim) Walsh of Vermont, and his favorite little sister- Brenda (Mike) Christophe of Virginia. His cancer diagnosis brought us all closer and put life into perspective.

He enjoyed playing horseshoes, watching car racing, listening to music, Saturday game night, meeting with the breakfast club, traveling with Tina, and meeting new people. Chris was born with the gift of gab. He could lighten the mood in any room with his quick wit and smile. Chris was beloved by all that knew him. His life on earth was too short.

Last but not least, he loved his two fur babies, CJ (Chris Jr), the golden retriever, and Sabre, the Chihuahua. They were by his side throughout his illness, providing warmth and good company. MEDINA – A great man recently said: “I’m so lucky, I love my life.” It is with extreme regret to share that Arthur J. Hill passed suddenly and unexpectedly, with family at his side, on January 25th at the age of 78. He was doing what he loved and building until the end.

A lifelong resident of Orleans County, Art was born in 1944 in Knowlesville NY, growing up on the Hill Farm and graduating from Medina High School in 1962.  In the early sixties Art, known for his love of cars, bought his first race car and raced at Lancaster Raceway. After his first race, he never looked back and owned various stock cars locally and throughout the Northeast.  Art’s love for the racing community knew no bounds and he cherished the many many friends he had made over the 60+ years of racing. This community and his involvement in racing was one of his greatest joys, and a staple in his life.

Known in the area as the founder of Art Hill Excavating (est. 1977), Art was always known as a man that loved his community, the citizens of Orleans County, and many throughout Western New York. He loved to create and help others over his 60-year career. Art’s reputation was well known as one of the best operators in the business.  He excelled at utilizing equipment with ease, grace, and precision. He loved to share his joy of operating heavy equipment while insisting on being fair, honest, and doing the best job possible for each customer. Art was also a mentor and father figure to many that worked at the company, loving to teach, instruct, and share his amazing knowledge of construction.  Through his many years in the business, he befriended many people and loved all that Medina and Orleans County had to offer.

Art was so proud of his children. His daughter, Jennifer, has owned and operated Art Hill Excavating for the past 12 years and his son, Jerry, who sells technologies to the Federal Government, meant the world to him. Later in life, Art was able to spend time in Florida as well where he married the love of his life, Marcia, and found his second family. Spending the winters in Florida, Art and Marcia enjoyed cruising abroad, racing, cars, activities on the lake, traveling the country, movies, and spending countless hours together. They were inseparable and loved each other like no other.

A huge void has been left by such an amazing man as he touched so many in his life from all corners of the country. His appreciation and love for life was infectious. He was loved so very dearly by so many and will be missed but not forgotten. His legacy will continue as Art Hill Excavating continues to serve Western New York and will for many years to come.

Art is survived by his wife Marcia Hamilton-Hill, son Gerald Hill of Leesburg, Virginia, wife Erin Hill, and grandchildren Nova Hill, Abigail Hill, and Kellen Hill, daughter Jennifer Hill-Young of Holley, New York, husband Aaron Young and granddaughter Lyndsay Young, stepson Shane Hamilton, wife Amanda Hamilton and grandchildren Taylor, Nixon and Kennedy, stepson Robert Hamilton, wife Tana Hamilton and grandchildren Christian, Cameron, Bryson, and Brantley, and Stephanie Chiasson and grandchildren Charles and Zachary.

All are welcome to attend calling hours on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company, 11392 Ridge Rd, Medina, NY 14103, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a graveside committal at the Millville Cemetery to follow at 3 p.m.  Please come and be prepared to share your favorite memories of this storied man.

WATERPORT – Clifford L. “Mr. Wonderful” Braman Jr., 76, died January 28, 2023 in Strong Memorial Hospital. 

Family and friends are invited to attend an informal graveside ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

MIDDLEPORT – Jeffrey Glenn Klotzbach, 62, of Middleport, NY entered into rest on Friday, January 27, 2023 at his home.

Born on November 4, 1960, in Medina, he was the son of the late Glenn and Delores (Kern) Klotzbach.

Jeff graduated from Medina High School in 1978 and worked on his family farm, Ka-Cy Farms in Medina where he was the co-owner and a successful farmer. He prided himself in his family and his farm, being proud of his accomplishments at planting time and especially during harvest, he would smile at the end of the harvest season and say “I’m done”, having successfully completed what needed to be done on the farm.

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Middleport and served on the Board of Directors of Orleans Community Health. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and when he was not working, he was an all- around handy-man, fixing farm machinery and anything that needed done around his home.

Jeff would always put family and friends first before himself. He was a Gentle Giant with a big heart of gold, always so kind and generous with his time and efforts towards others while being a great man of faith. Jeff was always willing to help those in need and his smile lit up the room. He will be greatly mourned by the many people whose lives he touched.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia Klotzbach; daughter, Kaitlyn (Connor Grabowski) Klotzbach; son, Justin Klotzbach; step-sons, Zachary (Amber Fortunato) Baldwin and Alex Baldwin. Jeff was a very proud Papa to Zoey Jo Baldwin, his “special peanut”. He leaves two sisters, Carol Heiligenthaler and Beth (Jake) Manley; one brother, Wayne Stanley Klotzbach; several nieces and nephews, his business partner Loren Fuller and his four-legged faithful companion, Abby.

BATAVIA – Cindy Oppel, 67, died January 24, 2023 in Rochester General Hospital following a brief illness. She was born October 9, 1955 in Rochester to Louis and Judith (Coates) Szymanski and was a life-long resident of this area. 

Cindy loved music, in particular Ozzie Osborne and Rob Zombie, she also enjoyed making art, sewing, as well as movies, dancing, and presenting herself appropriately as an elegant lady.  She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, was an avid animal lover, and was a fierce and protective mother who absolutely adored her grandchildren and her great grandson. 

She is survived by her children: Rae (Jen) Drennen of Batavia, Jen Oppel of Spencerport, Matt Oppel of Batavia; brothers: Mike Szymanski of Holley, Steven (Monica) Szymanski of Rochester; sister-in-law: Cindy Szymanski of Holley; 5 grandchildren: Irie, Cody, Noah, Ian and Addy; great-grandson: Jax; a family friend: Tina Reed as well as several nieces and nephews.

LYNDONVILLE – Mark F. Schuman, 67, of Lyndonville, NY, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023 at his home with his loving family at his side.

Born on January 22, 1956 in Cooperstown, NY, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Schuman.

Mark grew up in Otego, NY and attended Alfred State College, earning a degree in Mechanics. Right after graduation he purchased his first Semi truck and was an owner-operator of Schuman Trucking for 45 years until illness made him retire.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing in the Great Lakes and at Cape Hatteras, NC, going camping and taking drives to see the change in colors, especially in Otego and the Catskills Mountains. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends.

Mark is survived by his loving companion, Cherree Beach; two children, Amanda (Dan) Schuman of Stamford, NY and Christopher (Erin) Schuman of Sherburne, NY; two grandchildren, Elijah and Brynlee Schuman; two siblings, Kenneth Schuman of Endwell, NY and Carole Vanill of Medina, NY and several nieces and nephews.

HILTON/KENDALL – Roger Joseph Herman died peacefully at the age of 96 on January 20, 2023, with his wife and best friend, Joanie, of 68 years, and family members at his side.

Roger was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was a dedicated member of Concordia Lutheran Church since his baptism and served as a church council member.

A farmer by trade, Roger had a passion for making things grow and was a member of the Orleans County Farm Bureau and the Western New York Apple Growers Association. He was also a proud member of the Kendall Fire Department and served as a past Chief and Commissioner. He loved the game of baseball and refinishing furniture.

Lovingly known as Dad, Grandpa and Jaja, Roger’s dedication to family was known by all. He cherished his time with his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was deeply loved by his family, and he enjoyed attending their activities, especially baseball and other events.

Roger is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joanie; his children, Craig Herman (Janet), Cathy Herman, Carol D’Agostino (Phil), and Christine Herman (Eric Heinicke); his grandchildren, Caitlin Collins, Alana Collins (Sam Sherwin), Amy Conte (Jeff), Phil D’Agostino (Julie), Charlie D’Agostino (DeAnna), Tessa Beamer (Pete), Hali Snow, Emma Snow (Ryan Gaudreau); and his great-grandchildren, Louie, Jonny, and Sammy Conte; Vinnie, Luca, Izzy, and Adriana D’Agostino; and CJ, Andrew, and Ben D’Agostino. 

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Roger’s life with his family at a memorial service at the Kendall Lutheran Church, 1769 Kendall Road, Kendall, New York, on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends and family following the service.

MEDINA – Louis P. Scinta, 85, of Medina, NY, formerly of Lockport, NY, entered into rest on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at his home after a brief illness.

Born on February 7, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Giallambardo) Scinta.

After graduating high school, Louis enlisted in the U.S. Navy and on returning home, he married the former Linda A. Ventura and together they raised three children.

Louis worked in the Maintenance Department of Harrison Radiator, from which he retired in 1991. Later he married the former Rosemary P. Sullivan and raised four more children. After his retirement, they moved to Hickory, North Caroline for 18 years. Upon Rosemary’s passing, Louis moved back to the Medina area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his house, doing yard work and home improvements. He also enjoyed driving, often taking the scenic route across country.

He is survived by six children, Paul Scinta and Lisa Scinta, both of Lockport, NY, Jamie Craft of North Carolina, Gina (John) Fulcher of Lockport, NY, Louis, Jr. (Katy) Scinta of Oregon, Lori (James) Doxey of Middleport. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and three good friends, Suzie, Cheryl and Jim.

Besides his parents and two wives, he is predeceased by a son David Craft and two brothers, Carl and Joseph.

As per his wishes, there are no calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke, NY.

Barbara A. Reamer, 66, after a long illness went to be with her Lord on January 11, 2023. She was born November 11, 1956 to Richard and Eleanor Steehler.

Barbara leaves her loving husband of 43 years, Jeffrey; sons, Joshua (Stephanie) and Taylor (Brittany); her precious grandchildren, Briley, Jace and Aydn; brother, David (Carol) Steehler; sisters, Marlene (Fred) Bates, Janet (Patrick) Bolton and Carol (Steve) Schreiner; many nieces, nephews, cousins and the many friends she made along the way.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Eleanor.

Barbara had a passion for life and an undying belief in the goodness of others. Her devotion to faith manifested in love, compassion, caring and pursuit of giving. She always lit up a room with her smile and laugh.

Barbara’s love for her family was the dearest thing in her heart. The picnics, holidays, birthdays, ball games, or just a visit would bring her such happiness.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 905 South 13th Street, Rogers, AR 72758. The service will be live streamed through the church’s YouTube channel, youtube.com/@FCCRogers.

MEDINA – Suzanne R. Larson, of Medina, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 following a brief illness. Born December 19, 1949 in Lockport, she was a daughter of the late Hugh R. and Geneva O. (Welham) Lewis.

Suzanne was a graduate of Medina High School, class of 1968. She married the late Ronald L. Larson and together raise two children. Early on she worked at Fisher-Price Toys and for H.J. Heinz in Medina.

A caregiver by nature, Suzanne worked for many years for the WNY DDSO home in Medina, caring for the developmentally disabled. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Medina and also enjoyed doing arts and crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ronald in 2000; daughter, Veronica E. Larson in 2012; and brothers, Gregory J. Lewis in 2013 and Timothy R. Lewis in 2014.

Survivors include her son, Ronald L. Larson; brothers, Jeffrey D. (Colleen) Lewis and Kevin P. Lewis; sister, Mary (late Thomas) Rosia; niece, Robin Lewis; and nephews, Galen (Meagan) Lewis and James Rosia.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 522 Main St., Medina. The Rev. Dr. William Wilkinson will officiate.

MEDINA – Malcolm W. Watson, 85, passed away January 19, 2023 in Medina Memorial Hospital. Born July 9, 1937 in Lockport, he was the son of William and Mildred (Betz) Watson.

Malcolm served in the US Army, and worked for GM Powertrain in Tonawanda for 44 years in production. He also worked on the family farm, Watson Farm, in Medina working with his brother, father and grandfather. He enjoyed farming, hunting and the outdoors.

Malcolm is survived by his siblings, Joyce (late Robert) Kertzer, Douglas (Junita) Watson and Judith (late Kenneth Jr.) Stein. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Monday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Funeral services will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 67 Saxton St., Lockport. Memorial donations to the church would be appreciated by the family. Horace “Butch” Clark Bird passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at age 84. He was born October 31, 1938 in Medina, NY to Horace Clark Bird Sr. and Aurelia Dodson Vaughn Bird.

He was raised on the family farm on Ridge Road and graduated from Medina High School in 1956. Butch attended Cornell University, playing saxophone in the Big Red Marching Band. After graduating with B.S. and master’s degrees in electrical engineering in 1961, Butch joined the US Air Force and piloted C-130 cargo aircraft, receiving the Air Medal, and earning the rank of captain.

While based in Tachikawa, Japan, he met Dayle Cross. They married in 1964 and moved to Rochester, NY in 1967. Butch (aka “Clark”) worked as an engineer at Eastman Kodak Company and held patents for the first instant camera. He was a member of the Rochester Flying Club and shared his joy of flying with his family and friends. He restored his MGA car, boats and antique radios, and was a ham radio enthusiast.

His corny “dad” jokes and mischievous smile were legendary. After retiring from Kodak in 1995, Butch started his next chapter: teaching English in Osaka, Japan, then in Bangkok, Thailand, returning to the US in 2018 due to health issues. At the time of his death, Butch was a resident of the Scarborough Maine Veterans Home. His family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff and residents for making him feel at home there.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Robert Bird and Leslie Bird; sister, Emily Horner; and infant son, Stephen Bird.

He is survived by daughter, Pamela McDaniel (Eric); daughter, Carolyn Bird (Gregg Ritter); and son, Jeffrey Bird (Laura Taddeo); wife, Dayle Bird; 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Sophia and Jin McDaniel, Erin and Cecilia Bird Ritter, Joshua and Simon Bird; twin sister, Helen Rhoad; sister-in-law, Leah Bird; brother-in-law, David Horner; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Dell C. Stork, of Medina, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 with his devoted son, Ron and daughter in-law, Cherie at his side.

Born on leap year, February 29, 1932 in Medina, Dell was a son of the late George Harold and Florence (Hull) Stork. He graduated from Medina High School in the class of 1951. Shortly after, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1951-1954. Dell played varsity football during school and later was Co-Captain of the Medina MAC semi-pro football team. Returning home from service, he was employed at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo where he helped manufacture Rascal Missiles.

In 1959 Bell offered to transfer him to a position in Texas and, at the same time, he was offered a position as a Fireman for the Village of Medina Fire Department. He chose the latter of the two, and the rest is history, the beginning of a long and storied career in firefighting. He married the former Ellinor A. Hewitt on December 20, 1969. Dell was promoted to Fire Chief also in 1969, an office he held until his retirement in 1989. He was also a proud and active member of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Co. for 30 years. Dell was Past-Commander of Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion, where he also served as a Delegate for the 8^th District of the American Legion. He volunteered for many years on the Honor Guard, according military honors at funerals for local veterans. Dell served as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #32 in Medina. He enjoyed playing euchre, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a wildlife enthusiast.

Above all, Dell was a loving husband and devoted father. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellinor A. Stork on January 13, 1999; brother, Joseph (Audrey) Stork; and sister, Octavia (Louis) Noga.

Left to cherish his memory are his only son, Ronald (Cherie) Stork of Medina; a brother in-law, Wayne Hewitt; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Always one to avoid the spotlight, Dell was a humble man to say the least. Possessing a calm and steady demeanor, he was a true leader who was willing to share sage advice or extend a helping hand when needed. His roots ran deep in Medina, a community he loved. Along with earning his spot in Heaven, Dell certainly earned his spot in the pages of Medina’s history.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 W. Center St., Medina. Military honors will be accorded at the church. Immediately following the funeral, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Ridgeway Vol. Fire Hall, 11392 Ridge Rd., Medina. Interment will be privately held in Boxwood Cemetery at a later date.

Dotty DuSett passed away on January 16, 2023 at the age of 100. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy Gibson DuSett Jr., and her daughter, Dawn D. Donohue.

She is survived by her children, Danna DuSett, Kim Torrance Bannister, and Guy DuSett III; her grandchildren, Kelly Collazo, Amie Santiago, Genessa Donohue, Johnathan Donohue, Ra’Ann (Todd) Feiock, Summer Torrance, Toya Torrance, Dannielle Bannister, Nichole Bannister, and David Bannister II; her great-grandchildren, Autumn, Steven Guy, Davien, Lana, Baylee, Amara, Charles, Aria, John, Nathan, Jordyn, Adyan, Sky and Torrance; and her sister-in-law, Pat Quinn.

Dotty was also predeceased by her brother, David Quinn; and her sister, Marjorie Scott. Dotty and Guy hosted many exchange students over the years and considered their beloved Mahdu Balachandran, from India, as one of their sons.

Dotty was born in Hilton, New York on September 20, 1922 to Evalyn and Walt Quinn. In 1948 she married Guy Gibson DuSett, Jr. and they moved to the Hamlet of Hindsburg, in Orleans County, where they raised four children who loved their mom’s cooking, always politely asking, “who are these for?” before digging into any pies, cakes and cookies when arriving home, after school.

Dotty and her husband enjoyed square dancing and swing dancing in their leisure. Dotty was a 4th generation member of 4-H. She was a leader for 4-H of Orleans County and a member for 90 years. She taught sewing, cooking, baking, crafting, parliamentary procedure, public speaking and leadership skills. Dotty was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. She also always took care of neighbors in crisis. Dotty reported that she had collected locally for “every darn disease known to man”, as she was taught to say, “yes, I can!” to every request for assistance.

Dotty retired from Eastman Kodak Company. She was the church secretary/clerk for Murray Baptist Church, where she donated much of her time. She was a charter member of the International Exchange of Foreign Youth and taught genealogy at Cornell University. She was a life-long member of Parma Greece United Church of Christ. She was a literacy volunteer and a member of the Grange. She enjoyed putting on monologues. She delivered for Meals on Wheels, and received a community award from JC Penney for her volunteer work. She also won an Office of the Aging volunteer award. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Avenue in Hilton. Dotty’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at Parma Greece United Church of Christ, 1211 Manitou Rd, Hilton, NY 14468. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Sandy Creek Cemetery.

ALBION – Daniel S. Burdick, 51, of Albion, formally of Port Allegany, PA passed away on Jan. 12,2023 at the Cleveland Clinic with family by his side. He was born Aug. 19, 1971, in Port Allegany PA.

He was the son of the late Karl Burdick. Dan is survived by his mother, Muriel Buongiorne; his wife, Kelly (Haskins) Burdick of Albion; 4 daughters, Megan Kotarski (Robert), Lindsey Kotarski (Andrew) of Albion, Karey-Ann (Rigo) Torruco-Pina of East Dublin, GA, Dhannilynnie Burdick (Scotty) of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren, Jayden Plummer, Izabell Torruco-Pina, Eli Patten, Owen Pulaski, Parker Stymus, Salomon Torruco-Pina, Mariela Torruco-Pina; 3 step-grandchildren, Skyler Wilson, Kicker Wilson and Julianna Wilson along with a future grandchild; mother in-law, Mikell Haskins of Coudersport, and aunt Beverly Potter (Ell) of NV.

Dan was also survived by two brothers, Timothy Burdick (Kelly) of Coudersport, PA and Jonathan Burdick (Celia) of Albion, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and several sister in-laws and brother in-laws. He was also proceeded in death by his father in-law Paul Haskins and sister in-law April Burdick of Coudersport.

Dan enjoyed life to the fullest after receiving a double lung transplant in 2018. He was given a second chance to enjoy his grandchildren and family and encouraged everyone to become an organ donor. Not only did he receive a set of lungs, in his passing he donated his organs to help many, many people in need of transplants.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
