Obituaries

Tom Shubbuck, whose life was as exceptional as his sense of humor, passed away peacefully in January 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Buffalo, NY, to Genevieve (Piskorowski) and Edmund Shubbuck, Tom spent most of his early years in Medina tinkering with mechanical things. He put those skills into action when he joined the U.S. Coast Guard as an Electronics Technician and was based all over the world, including Hawaii, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Tom quickly climbed the ranks and became a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO4).

Tom was a playful person with a mischievous streak, but his twinkling eyes always betrayed his thoughts. His humor knew no bounds, and he never missed an opportunity to try to make others laugh, even if only to tickle his own funny bone. He was also an empathetic listener who gave practical and well-thought-out advice when asked for it.

After retiring from the service, Tom continued to climb the ladder professionally, eventually becoming the Director of Engineering at various hospitals in Connecticut. Tom was a firm believer in education being the key to a better life, and so he earned a BS in Engineering from Roger Williams College and an MS in Organizational Management from Central CT State University.

Tom shared his best years with his wife Karen. They had two sons, Thomas and Michael, whose wife, Tara, fits in well with this fun, travel-loving family. Tom also loved miniature schnauzers, and he and Karen cherished the four of them. The entire family enjoyed traveling all over the United States as the boys were growing up, and they briefly lived in New Mexico before settling in Las Vegas, NV. Not one to sit around, Tom earned his licensure to become a teacher in the Clark County School district in Las Vegas, where he taught computer science among many subjects, for several years. Tom and Karen continued to travel the world and sailed on many cruise trips, with Tom glad not to have “the duty” while on board.

Sadly, Tom’s only brother, Ronnie, was killed during the Vietnam War and buried in Arlington National Cemetery. It is there that Tom will also be laid to rest, leaving behind a legacy of service to his country, belly full of laughter and much, much love. KENDALL – James L. Dusett, age 80, died September 11, 2023 in Unity Hospital following a brief illness. 

He was born December 20, 1942 in Medina, NY to Lewis and Madeline (Kirkpatrick) Dusett and was a lifetime resident of this area.  Jim was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kendall, was a retiree of Eastman Kodak and was a member and former Assistant Chief of the Kendall Fire Department.  He enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, travelling, and organizing vacation trips with friends.  Mr. Dusett was predeceased siblings: Deloros Cunningham, Wendy Walton and Lewis Dusett, Jr. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Patricia, his children: Kathy (James) Bresnan of PA, Jill (Mark) Groves of Kendall, his brother: Gary (Madaline) Dusett of Knowlesville, 2 sisters-in-law: Della Dusett of Adams Basin, Jayne New of FL, his grandchildren: Molly (Hunter) McMillion, Shelby (Jason) Moulton, 2 great grandchildren: Wesley and Greyson as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.  Family and friends are invited to attend Jim’s Memorial Service SUNDAY 9/17 at 2PM in Concordia Lutheran Church, 1769 Kendall Road, Kendall, NY, 14476.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenwood Cemetery.

HOLLEY – Janet D. Mignano, age 63, passed away September 11, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with Leukemia. She was born April 4, 1960 in Charleston, SC to the late Clarence and Shirley (Ferraro) Schuler. 

Janet was a 1978 graduate of Kendall High School and spent over 25 years working in the billing department at Oak Orchard Health before her illness forced her to retire. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, and sublimation printing of pictures on t-shirts and coffee cups. Janet and John loved to travel when they were able, recently traveling to Sturgis in August for the annual motorcycle rally and last February to Disney World with her grandsons. Most of all, Janet loved being with her family, dogs, and especially her grandsons. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Cristina, and brother Timothy Schuler.  

Janet is survived by her husband of 45 years on September 15th, John, son, Tony (Makenzi) Mignano, grandsons, Enzo and Salvatore, siblings, Bill (Barbara) Schuler, Debra Schuler Maynard, sister in law, Joanne Maid, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Janet’s family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home 16650 State Route 31 Holley, NY 14470 on Friday, September 15^th from 4:00-7:00pm where a celebration of her life service will be held immediately following at 7:00pm.

Interment will take place privately at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

VICTOR- Mary E. “Betsy” Barnard, of Victor, NY, passed away suddenly on September 7, 2023.  She was born in Medina, NY, on March 4,1944, a daughter of the late Germain A. and Henrietta [McElwee] Holtz.

Betsy graduated from the Rochester Business Institute and worked for many years at banking institutions in Springfield, MA, Rochester, NY and Albany, NY as a Teller, prior to her retirement.

Betsy enjoyed spending time with friends and family.  She loved to garden, especially with members of the Fairport Garden Club.  Betsy also enjoyed gathering with her fellow graduates from Medina High School class of 1962, whether it was a reunion or luncheon. She joined many Welcome Clubs in all the places she lived as she enjoyed dining with friends and learning /sharing new recipes.  Most of all, Betsy had a lifetime love of cats and was extremely supportive of cat adoption.

Betsy lived in many cities, following the career of her husband, to include Buffalo, NY, West Seneca, NY, Hamburg, NY, Pittsford, NY, Croton on the Hudson, NY, Lyons, NY, Wilbraham, MA, State College, PA, Honeoye Falls, NY, Clifton Park, NY, Mendon, NY, Victor, NY and Severna Park, MD.

Betsy is survived by her husband Richard W. Barnard, sons James M. (Maria) Barnard, John T. Barnard, granddaughters Megan Barnard and Jessica Barnard, a brother Thomas A. (Colleen) Holtz, a sister Margaret “Peg” (Michael) Cushman, aunt of Katherine (Donald) Mills, Julie (Nathan) Green,  Matthew (Stephanie) Holtz, David Holtz, Robert (Marie) Cushman and William (Melissa) Cushman, great aunt of Benjamin, Abigail,  Carrie, Henry, Leah, Rose, Bridgette, Thomas, Charlotte and Samuel. She is also survived by her beloved cat Susie.

She was the sister of the late Robert H. (late Karen) Holtz.

MEDINA- Paul J. Heiligenthaler, 66, of Medina, NY, passed away on September 7, 2023, at the Martin-Linsin Residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 12, 1957, in Medina, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lois (Dillion) Heiligenthaler.

Paul graduated from Medina High School in 1975 and graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and then a Law Degree from the University of South Carolina. At one time, he was employed in the oil fields of North Dakota and enjoyed his time there. Paul had strong family values, having taken care of his mother and stepfather in their later years. He enjoyed spending time with his brother, Scott, and especially with his son, Joseph. Paul was an avid poker player and was a devoted SU Basketball fan.

Paul is survived by his son, Joseph, a sister-in-law, Peggy, a nephew, Jason, and his great-nephew, Bryson, and other nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Paul is predeceased by his beloved brother, Scott.

MEDINA- Georgia M. (Van Dee) Wymyczak departed this life on September 8, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born in Cuyler, New York on June 16, 1932 to George and Esther Van Dee. She retired from Fisher Price Toys in 1993 after over 20 years of employment.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Fairchild of Cortland, NY, Penny Wymyczak White (Randy) of The Woodlands, TX and Robin (Jeff) Sweigart of El Dorado Hills, CA. She is also survived by three sons, Scott (Sherry) Wymyczak of Lockport, NY, Kent (Pam) Wymyczak of League City, TX and Douglas Wymyczak of Medina, NY. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Shauna, Jessie, Ryan, Nick, Georgia (Georgie), Randi, Brent, Cody, Matthew, Kara, Patty, Gabriel, Carissa and Dillon; great-grandchildren, Liam, Emily, Otto, Ellis, Weston, Lily, Colleen, James, AJ, Ava, Colton and Kade. Georgia is also survived by her loving brother, Ron (Wilma) Van Dee.

Georgia was predeceased by her parents, George and Esther Van Dee; her son, William George Wymyczak; daughter, Debra Lynn Wymyczak; and grandson, Joshua David Wymyczak.

As a mother, Georgia was the best her children could have ever asked for. She showed them how to be kind, but also to stand up for themselves; how to be gentle, but to remain strong; and to never give up on their dreams. She loved being a mother and her extended family. Georgia loved her church, Medina (Grove) United Methodist Church. She loved baking and going to the Country Club Restaurant (The Greeks) to have coffee with friends. She enjoyed the senior citizens center, but did not join the club until late in life because she thought it was for old people. We will always remember her strong will; the strong will that beat colon cancer, COVID, and a massive stroke. Mom was the guiding light in our lives and we will be forever grateful.

The family would like to personally thank the amazing staff of doctors and nurses at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Williamsville, for the care they provided for Georgia during her stay. ALBION- Wilford K. “Willie” Wraight, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the Martin-Linsin Residence of Hospice.  He was born February 4, 1934 in Pulteney NY, a son of the late Victor and Unadah (Brown) Wraight and had lived in this area most of his life. 

He was an avid woodsman, hunter, and gardener. He grew up behind a horse and plow, then moved with the times to single-cylinder tractors with steel wheels, on to bigger tractors, rubber tires, and (yay!) hydraulics. He loved all farm equipment. In his youth, he was a conductor on a small locomotive, and expressed a fondness for trains ever after. He made machinery deliveries all over Western New York in the sixties, and seemed to know every small town in the state. He took pride in performing any job to the best of his ability: an Electrician’s Mate in the US Navy, delivering machinery for Bentley Brothers, organizing the Parts Department for Lipton’s, where he eventually became a millwright, and in some of the precision machining he was able to do at Eastman Kodak, also as a millwright. 

In retirement, he worked a remarkably large garden: onions, peas, beets, spinach, green and yellow beans, lettuce, zucchini and yellow squash, cantaloupe (“musk melon” he called it), and bushels of butternut squash, potatoes, corn, and tomatoes. He was tickled pink when he started growing garlic. 

He was a natural-born storyteller, and everyone was a friend unless proven otherwise. He loved his family more than he could say. Truly, he would burst into tears if he tried. They, in turn, loved him. More than they can say. 

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan; son Alan (Nancy) Wraight; daughter Margaret “Peggy” (John Buchan) Wraight; granddaughters Erin (Wayne) Baker, Christina (Mark) Ingold; great-grandsons Ellis and Rhett Baker; sister Martha (Calvin) Richards; brother Larry (Marie) Wraight as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Perry; sisters Lena Sprague, Delores Robinson; brother Warren Wraight; nephews Jay and John Sprague. 

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, 21 W. Ave. Albion, on Friday September 8^th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 9, at 12:00 noon at the Barre Center Presbyterian Church, 4706 Oak Orchard Rd., Albion NY 14411.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Mt. PENDLETON – Edward (Ed) Hellwig, of Pendleton, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Niagara Hospice, after a lengthy illness.

Born July 26, 1939, in Gnojno, Kreis Lipno, West Prussia, Germany, he was the son of Ernst Emil and Lydia Witt Hellwig.

On June 12, 1951, he came to the United States of America, on the Homeland. On May 5, 1962, Edward married the former Dorothy Ann Fuller, of Medina, and they celebrated their 61st anniversary this past May.

Raised in Ellicottville, NY, Ed spent his young adult years in Medina, where he was employed by the Medina Journal-Register as a printer for two years and met his future wife.

In 1964 Ed went to work at The Buffalo Evening News as a printer and machinist before being put in charge of the paper’s computer system when publishing became automated. Edward worked there until his retirement in 1996. He was proud that he missed only one day of work in 32 years of employment.

When not at The News, Ed enjoyed being outdoors and loved trips to the Southern Tier or Lake Ontario to visit family. He often found himself putting his machinist skills to work fixing any other things that needed care. As the saying went, “If Ed can’t fix it, you might as well throw it out, because nobody can.” He enjoyed offering his skills to relatives and friends, and serving his church community as secretary of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sanborn during the 1980s.

Ed’s pride and joy over the past several decades were his grandchildren. He loved to attend their sporting events throughout high school and college, and rarely missed a game. He spent countless hours tutoring, entertaining, and helping guide them through life, and later loved watching them grow into adulthood.

Ed was pre-deceased by his brother, Adolph Hellwig; brothers-in-law Charles Musall, Merle Draper, William Menz, Robert Fuller, Lavern “Bud” Fuller, Walter Paul Fuller; sisters-in-law Shirley Hellwig, Marlene Hellwig, Edith Barb Draper; Doris Fuller, Patricia Fuller, and Barbara Allen.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Fuller) Hellwig; son, Eric Hellwig (Sandra) of Medina; daughter, Karen Migliori (Rocco) of Rome, NY; grandchildren Adam Hellwig (Staceylyn Smith) of Lockport; Jason Hellwig (Kayleen Burns) of Lancaster, PA; Jalin Cooper (Emma Cloonan) of Pittsburgh, PA; Katherine Migliori (Ethan Siderine) of Rome, NY; great-grandson Jace Cooper; sisters Irma (Charles) Musall, Olga (James) Cash; brother Emil (Marlene) Hellwig; sister-in-law Elizabeth (William) Menz; several nieces and nephews, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Medina, NY 14103, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery and will be private for the family.

ROCHESTER- Kathleen A. Sackett passed away on September 1, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents Owen and Iva McAllister and her daughter Valerie Rose Spencer, who was the love of her life. She is survived by her brother Thomas E. McAllister, her grandchildren Jason (Kelli) Spencer, Aaron (Dale) Spencer, Andrew Civiletti. Also survived by her nieces Cheryl (Staci) Smith, Kelly (Dan) Perry, nephew Jeff (Starr) Carlton and their children as well as many cousins.

Kathleen was a teacher for over 30 years and retired from Pembroke School District where she was the Teachers Union President. Upon retirement she loved traveling and spent a month in Spain exploring monasteries, social and religious customs which she also did in Southern California. She also was into the culinary arts and had many cook books from which she created gourmet meals. She entered the Pillsbury Cookoff for many years.

Kathleen was a compassionate and giving person to all who knew her. Donations may be made to St. Christopher’s Church in Chili, NY in her name.

LOCKPORT- Leonard Petix 59 passed away peacefully at Cleveland Clinic with his beloved partner Thomas Fusco by his side. Leonard was born on August 22, 1964.Surviving Leonard, in addition to his 40-year partner Thomas, are his father, Joseph Petix; his sister, Cindy (Petix) Mayer; brother-in-law, Michael Mayer; nephews, Matthew and Alexander; niece, Sofia; his aunt and uncle, Shirley and Walter Muench; and his uncle and aunt, Sebastian and Joy Petix. Leonard was predeceased by his loving mother, Patricia Petix. Leonard was born in Rochester, New York, and obtained his high school diploma from Brighton High School. He then pursued his undergraduate degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1989, Leonard achieved his master’s degree in School Psychology from the Rochester Institute of Technology and dedicated the next thirty years to serving as a school psychologist for the Medina Central School District. Leonard was deeply passionate about his work, particularly the well-being of his students. He was cherished and respected by both staff and students, retiring in 2019. Leonard was an enthusiastic traveler, an excellent cook, a cherished friend to many, and a source of joy for his family. He was notably known for his infectious laughter, his sense of humor, his overall silliness, and his gift of making everyone feel special. He left a lasting impact on many lives and will be forever missed. Friends may call Friday, September 8 from 4-7PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). ALBION – Patricia Joan Thompson, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2023. She was born January 7, 1935, in Irondequoit, the daughter of the late Howard and Slyvia (Ingersol) Holden.

In 1968, Pat and her family settled in Albion after years of traveling with her husband’s job. Pat had various jobs, but loved her last job as a Teacher’s Aide at Albion Central.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, DeLois “Ted” in 2020.

Patricia is survived by her children, Susan (Dr. Edward) DePeters, Marcia (David) Harris, and Jan (Tom Keeler) Spencer; grandchildren, Mark (Michelle) DePeters, Leigh (Tom) Watts, Evan (Marisa) Harris and Daley (Cody) Harris; great-grandchildren, Zayden and Liam DePeters, Sawyier and Forest Watts, and Knolan Harris.

Services for Patricia will be held privately. Interment will be held at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

MEDINA – James Charles Tee, 72, of Medina, NY, went to his great beyond on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Born on November 17, 1950, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Lauren and Alice (Taylor)(Tee) Whiting.

Jim was a proud Union Iron Worker for 50 years. He was a member of the Iron Workers of Buffalo Local 6 and Niagara Falls Local 9. Early in his career he boomed out and worked in many states across the country. Many of the bridges and buildings you see, Jim helped build. He loved to ride motorcycles and play golf with his family and friends.

He is survived by Christine (Miller) Tee, his loving wife of 41 years, and two loving children, Elizabeth Tee, and James Charles (Aris Otminski) Tee Jr., and six siblings, Steven (Delia) Tee, Alice Marie (John) Worrall, Theo (Michael) Abraham, Phyllis (Robert, deceased) Whiting, Rodney (LuAnne) Whiting and Nancy (Tim) Girard. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

MIDDLEPORT – Marjorie Manley Perry of Middleport, NY, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2023. Born on November 13, 1929, she was the daughter of Edna Hare Manley and Homer Jerome Manley.

Marge married the late Charles Robert Perry on May 27, 1950, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage before he passed away on his 94th birthday on November 1, 2020. She and Chuck built their home in Middleport where she still resided.

She was a lifetime member of County Line Country Church where she played the piano until her passing and also worked in women’s and children’s ministries. She was a member of Eastern Star and participated in several community musicals, with music being a great passion of hers. Her main joy was being a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to bake and often shared with family and neighbors. Visiting shut-ins and sending cards was a priority and she loved being with people, especially her family. Her singing phone calls on birthdays will be greatly missed by her family as well as her chocolate cake.

Surviving are daughters Susan (late Richard) Atwater and Jane (late Timothy) Phillips. Also surviving is brother-in-law Donald Perry, grandchildren Benjamin (Susan) Atwater, Stephen (Amanda) Phillips, Adam (Hannah) Atwater, Denise Phillips, Alicia (Robert) White, and Seth (Renee) Atwater; great-grandchildren Marissa, Bailie, Adeline, Camden, Ashlyn Elise, Lydia, Nolan, Lincoln, Grant and Winston. Also, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she kept close in her heart.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary (Arthur) Porter and a great-grandchild, Richard.

The kindness and helpfulness of her neighbors is greatly appreciated by her family. They mowed her lawn, fed the birds, brought food, and even rescued her from her fall. We are forever grateful for them.

Calling hours will be at County Line Country Church 1385 County Line Rd. Lyndonville, NY 14098 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, September 4th, with the funeral to follow at 12 p.m. Interment at Hartland Cemetery will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

MEDINA – Carolyn Lee Thomas, 83, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023 after a long battle with Alzeheimer’s disease. She was born on September 2nd, 1939 to Theodore Arthur Duck and Georgia Agnes DeFrank in Martins Ferry, Ohio.

She was a graduate of Martins Ferry High School. Carolyn was a loving wife to her predeceased husband, Malcolm Thomas and devoted mother to her children, Stephanie Ramage(Boca Raton, Fl), Mark Thomas(Boca Raton, FL) and Trevor Thomas(Fort Lauderdale, Florida.)

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Connor Ramage(New York, NY), Natalie Ramage(Orlando, Fl), Brady Thomas(Boca Raton, Fl), Miranda Thomas(Boca Raton, FL), Zachary Thomas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and Matthew Thomas(Fort Lauderdale, Fl).  She is survived by her siblings Larry “Butch” Duck(Martins Ferry, Ohio) and Donna Donahie(Wheeling, WV).

She is predeceased by her siblings Richard “Dick” Duck(Martins Ferry, Ohio) and Letty Matia(Detroit, Michigan).

Carolyn enjoyed gardening, cooking and decorating her home.  One of her favorite things to do was to have family and friends over on Christmas Eve for a celebration.  She was born in Ohio, but made Medina, NY her home.  She supported the Medina sports teams and attended many community events.

Carolyn was a kind and gentle who loved to laugh with her family and friends.  She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.  The family would like to thank The Monarch at Coconut Creek memory care assisted living facility for making the last 2 and a half years her home.

ALBION – Charlotte Mary Monacelli, age 94, passed away at Sunset Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Venice, FL on August 27, 2023.

Charlotte was born on November 21, 1928 in Albion, NY to the late Casimer and Martha (Furmanski) Stucko. She was a graduate of Albion High School, Class of 1946. On March 26, 1951, she married Robert Monacelli.

Charlotte was a long time employee of Orleans Travel Bureau in Albion, NY, and in 1972 she and Robert purchased the Orleans Travel Bureau. In 1983, they decided to retire, sold the business, and moved to Sarasota, FL.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert, on October 10, 2011, her grandson, Robert Alan Monacelli, on January 9, 1997, her sister, Lorraine Noreck, on October 11, 2021, and her in-laws, Amedeo and Lena Monacelli.

She is survived by her son Alan (Michelle) Monacelli of North Port, FL and her grandsons, Anthony Monacelli and Aaron Monacelli of North Port, FL. She is also survived by her two nieces, Kathleen Ziegler (Carl) of Lithia, FL, Lynne Ricci (Stephen) of Ocala, FL, her nephew Jeffrey VanNostrand (Jeanne) of Batavia, NY, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great niece.

Services will be held at the Church of the Incarnation, 2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 9:30 AM.

BARRE- Dee Ann was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on August 25, 2023 at the age of 79. Predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Mary Jane Rhodey and brother Kenneth Rhodey Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Gary, devoted daughters Wendy Amering, Kristen (Chris) Stevens, and Kimberly (Roger) Taylor and eight amazing grandchildren Cole, Madeleine and Maxwell Amering, Parker Stevens, Melodie (Ryan) Foster, Jessalyn and Camron Taylor. Brothers-in-law David (Betty) Parker, Marc (Irina) Parker and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dee Ann grew up on the family farm in Barre, NY. She Graduated from Albion High School and furthered her degree at Alfred State. She worked as a Secretary at WE-MO-CO until her retirement in 1999.

Dee Ann and her husband Gary were sweethearts for 65 years and married for 58.They had a special bond with one another that was admired by all of their friends and family. Dee Ann was happiest when spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed their vacations, camping trips and family gatherings. Holidays and birthday celebrations were some of her favorite times.

Her many talents included caring for the beautiful gardens around her home, sewing clothing, curtains and countless costumes for her children and grandchildren. She was a great crafter including painting, refinishing furniture and scrapbooking. She also meticulously documented and organized all of her photos. Dee Ann also enjoyed baking, playing piano and solitaire and doing puzzles.

Dee Ann was a lover of all animals but especially horses and dogs including Riley and her most recent companion Maggie.

Dee Ann was loving, kind and gentle and always smiling and was loved by everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

LYNDONVILLE/MEDINA- Daniel M. Schultz, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 after struggling with the devastating effects of Frontotemporal Dementia.

Dan was born in Medina on May 29, 1944 a son to the late Daniel M. Schultz, Sr. and Florence (Kubatek) Schultz Andrews. He graduated from Medina Senior High School in the Class of 1961 before earning a degree in Metallurgy from Erie Community College. He worked extensively in the foundry industry for over 50 years. He began his career at Abex Corporation in Medina, where he became Superintendent of High Integrity Castings. In 1985 he left Abex and Medina to become Senior Manager of Metallurgy & Quality for Johnstown Corporation in Johnstown, PA, a US steel spin off and start-up foundry. Finally, Dan joined Unicast Company in Boyertown, PA in 1999 as their Vice President of Quality, eventually becoming Unicast’s President and CEO before retiring in 2018.

Dan enjoyed being outdoors working in the dirt, listening to great tunes on his stereo, fixing things, problem solving, watching the numbers and his career. He would tell you he “never had a bad day in his life” even when he was sick with dementia.

Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by his first wife, the former Kathleen (Ford); sister, Linda Flower; and stepfather Edward Andrews.

He is survived by his wife, the former Karen (Collette); his son, Scott (Kathleen) Schultz; daughter, Renee (David) Meese; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Jeremy) Bernstein, Maximilian (Morgan) Meese, Jennifer (Michael) Reznikow and Samantha Schultz; and three great-grandchildren Emme, Elias, Sophie and one more on the way.

His graveside committal service will be held on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Medina. A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, September 16 at 11:00 A.M. at the East Shelby Community Bible Church, 5278 E. Shelby Rd., Medina, NY 14103. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.

The family would like to personally thank the amazing staff of Hospice of Orleans for the wonderful care they provided both Daniel and the family in his final days.

HAMLIN – Duffy Bettilyon passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023. She is survived by her sons Jimmie, Danny and Randy, 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. KENDALL- Larry H. Fisher age 86 passed away peacefully August 27, 2023 at the Villages of Orleans. He was born May 8, 1937 in Salamanca, NY, a son of the late Agustus and Ethel (Wood) Fisher and had lived in this area for the past 54 years. 

Larry served in the US Air Force from 1955-1959. He worked at Eastman Kodak as a Machinist, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Albion United Methodist Church and the Albion Rod and Gun Club.He and his wife Jo Anne enjoyed traveling down South in their fifth wheel camper, visiting their children. Larry loved working with his hands building and repairing things. He made many different things from his wood working skills; rocking horses, rocking chairs, toy trains and he fixed small engines and machinery.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter Samantha. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jo Anne; children Sonya (Roger) Cox, Larry (Debbi) Fisher II, Keith (Renee) Fisher; grandchildren Nichole Cox, Benjamin Cox, Amanda Fisher, Sarah Fisher, Adam Fisher, Ellison Fisher; great-grandchildren Ethan, Audrey, Amelia, Madeline; brothers Harlow (Judy) Fisher, Ira Joe (Michelle) Fisher as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

ALBION- Marcia J. Elwell, 88, passed away August 29, 2023 at the Martin LInsen Hospice Residence.  She was born October 19, 1934 in Albion, a daughter of the late Chester and Celia (Jablonski) Sledzinski.  Marcia enjoyed going to the casino, playing slot machines and traveling.  Marcia was a terrific stay at home mom.  Marcia and her husband William loved to refinish antique trunks.

She was predeceased by her sons Mark and Russell Elwell, brother, Francis Sledzinski, great-grandson, Mark Philip Elwell and her loving husband William.

Marcia is survived by her daughters Valerie Rush of Albion and Bonnie Johnson of Waterport; grandchildren, Jason (Celia) Elwell, Jeremy (Erica) Elwell, Michael (Danielle) Blake, Steven Blake, Cheryl (Raymond) Laine and Samantha (Kyle) Ham; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins.

Family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home 21 W. Avenue, Albion, on Thursday August 31, from 11:00-1:00, followed by her funeral service at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Albion Cemetery.
