MEDINA – Celine Miller, of Medina, New York, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the age of 67.

Celine’s passion was helping and caring for others as demonstrated through her over 40-year career in the healthcare industry. She worked tirelessly throughout Western New York.

Celine loved her pets and we know she is now playing with her beloved Wilson and Hank as her other loves, Otis, Oliver, Amelia and Bubblelina are already missing her.

A God-fearing and praising woman, Celine was not afraid to speak about her faith. She attended church on a regular basis and talked about God for hours. We know that she ran into heaven, happy to be in the arms of her savior.

Celine appreciated chances to have a good laugh, which you could overhear as she watched Madea movies and snacked on her chocolate candies. Keep laughing and enjoying those candies, you lived well. It is now time to take a well-earned rest.

Vincent Charles Martina

ALBION- Vincent Charles Martina, who left his most indelible marks as a loving father and impassioned Catholic, was born in Albion, New York, to proud Sicilian Americans Charles and Sara Martina. As the youngest of three children, Vin was close to his sisters Marilyn and Joanie.

Vin’s early fascination with flight – which he courted as a child with an umbrella from the second floor of a barn – ultimately led him to serve as a U.S. Navy officer and navigator for a reconnaissance P-3 squadron. His children reveled in his tales of tracking Soviet submarines at the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis. A sustained interest in aviation led him to pursue private flight lessons later in life.

While Vin’s preference for playing and socializing led to meager early academic achievements, he found success at Le Moyne College, and there participated in theater, with a main role in a production of Shakespeare’s King Lear. After graduating, he worked for many years with his father, who was a serial entrepreneur in the grocery and theater businesses. When Charlie retired and they sold the theater business in upstate New York, Vin chose to pursue a lifelong interest in law. His intellectual gifts were revealed at Franklin Pierce Law School in New Hampshire, and he graduated at the top of his class. After passing the state bar he practiced law in Amherst, New Hampshire, for more than 20 years while building a successful title company.

Throughout his legal career Vin exhibited a spirited antagonism toward the abuse of judicial authority, and he embodied an oft cited bible passage, ‘it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God,’ through his frequent pro bono advocacy.

Although shrewd in his suspicions, Vin proved a ripe target for jest, often from his brother-in-law Earl on the golf course, and pranks levied against him by his children. Ultimately, it was his full-bodied laugh – a guffaw that would devolve into a joyful wheeze – that motivated those antics through the years. As a result, many good stories were created. He knew how to laugh, and laugh he did, even at his own expense.

So much of his marriage with Susan, his wife of 24 years, was marked by this humor and companionship, culminating in some of the happiest years of his life. The pair spent many weekends traveling the East Coast with a close-knit group of four couples they dubbed their “golf family” in a quest for freeways and friendship. A devout Catholic, Vin found purpose in his final few years after his move to Wilmington in his local Catholic men’s group where his presence and wisdom was celebrated and appreciated.

Vin is survived by his four children with his first wife Barbara – Liza, Anthony, Max, and Michael; his wife Susan; his sister Joanie O’Neill; and five grandchildren, Peter (22), Zoe (19), Elliot (15), Sawyer (13), and Rhys (10).

A funeral mass will be held 12:00 PM, Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 209 S Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vin’s name to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington, NC.

Eleanor “Elli” Lockwood

ALBION- Eleanor “Elli” Lockwood passed peacefully on June 11, 2023. Elli was born 12/3/1929 to Robert and Helen C. Miller in Albion, New York. Elli was predeceased by her husband, Burt E. Lockwood in 2006. She is survived by her children; Mark E. Lockwood and Valerie J. (Scott) Graff; her grandchildren, Vanessa J. (Sithidej) Soundara and Violet S. Wenner; and her great grandchildren, Kaylee A. Soundara, Brayden S. Edmister, and Kadence B. Edmister.

Elli grew up in Barre Center and Albion, New York. She was employed at Lipton Canning Factory until moving to Riverside and Azusa, California shortly after her marriage to Burt in 1952. They lived in California for 18 years, during which time she became a mother and a Certified Teacher at Covina Adult Education.

When Elli and Burt moved back closer to their roots in Medina, New York, Elli began working as a seamstress at S.A. Cook. After a few years, they moved to Venice, Florida where Elli was the Master Seamstress/Tailor at The Elegant Lady Bridal Shop. After several years in Florida, they returned to Albion, New York where Elli enjoyed a short career as a Department Manager at Dale’s Grocery before retiring from there.

Early in life, Elli began bowling. She advanced her skill to include many games over 200, and several games at 299; but, quoting Elli, “Never the 300 game! Always missing 300 by ONE PIN!” Elli taught bowling to locals, coached semi-pro’s, and bowled with Hollywood Stars.  She earned, literally hundreds of trophies, patches, and pins; including glass engraved mugs from every Orleans County ABATE Bowling Tournament she entered. Her bowling hobby continued well into her 80’s, when she led the last team she was on, her own team, “Elli’s Girls”.

Elli was very active with the First United Methodist Church. She loves God, her faith, and church family. She never hesitated to volunteer a helping hand with dinners, prayer chains, etc. Elli took great pride in orchestrating annual rummage sales to raise money for the church, for many years.

Elli was an avid Buffalo Bill’s football fan. She kept track of game scores all year! She attended several games and met several players. Elli enjoyed the motorcycle rides Mark gave her; and walking alongside creeks and fields with Valerie. Elli loved her pet chihuahua’s, Peppi 1, 2, 3, and 4. Having her first dog in California and replacing each as they passed, with another. She loved decorating to the hilt for Christmas, baking, writing recipes, and gathering for family picnics. Elli gave of herself immensely to befriend and help anyone.

Prior to her passing, Elli chose against a standard burial and funeral. She donated her body to the University of Buffalo’s Anatomical Gift Program and upon completion she will join her husband Burt at the Skinnerville Cemetery on UB’s North Campus. As Elli wished, a private moment will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Elli asked that memorials be made to Save-a-Pet Niagara County, Inc. at https://www.saveapetniagara.com
