Sharon Narburgh

Sharon was born November 11, 1941, to Donald and Priscilla (Ermonis) Hagelstein in Buffalo, NY and graduated from Clarence Central School, Class of 1959. In her early twenties she met her husband Bill (Narby) Narburgh at the Middleport Country Club and were married in 1962. They settled in Albion and in 1966 purchased the Berns Store property near Point Breeze, NY that would become their home and business, Narby’s Superette & Tackle, for the rest of their lives.
Sharon and Bill were blessed with three children Kirk, Cassandra and Chad. They raised their family, in the residence above Narby’s, while devoting almost all waking hours to running the business seven days a week every day of the year. They transformed Narby’s into a nationally recognized destination for gas, groceries, hunting gear, and fishing tackle/bait less than a mile from Lake Ontario and located along the Oak Orchard River Salmon/Trout run.
Sharon and Bill were active as Town of Carlton Councilors and with many Lake Ontario fishing/sportsmen committees. Earlier in Sharon’s life she was also active in art and ceramics in the area. Upon Bill’s untimely passing in 1992 Sharon would go on to operate Narby’s on her own until she incurred a significant hip related injury that forced her to step away and close the store in April 2023 after 58 years of operation.
Sharon was a huge proponent of the Point Breeze area, the NYS Seaway Trail, and Orleans County tourism volunteering to be the voice of the fishing hotline for 30 years. She served on the Orleans County Tourism Board and the Fishery Advisory Board where she was active in attending many sportfishing trade shows on behalf of Orleans County while promoting the Lake Ontario fishing industry particularly the natural resources inherent to the Point Breeze and Oak Orchard River area. The Albion Rotary Club honored Sharon in 2016 as a Paul Harris Fellow, the club’s highest award, due to her commitment to elevating the fishing industry. She was also a key local leader who helped get Point Breeze named “The Ultimate Fishing Town” by the World Fishing Network in 2013.
Sharon was most concerned for her customers, that she had fostered friendships with for 58 years, when she closed the store in 2023. She said at the time that “Your loyalty and support have meant the world to me, and I am truly humbled by the relationships we have built over the years.” Sharon worked incredibly hard her entire life and had but a short two years to enjoy some down time.
Sharon especially will be remembered for her tenacity, drive, and fiery spirit operating Narby’s and for her sincere “heart of gold” towards family, friends and customers alike.
Sharon is survived by her son Kirk (Kim) of Cicero, NY, two granddaughters Sarah (Corey) Burrows of Ipswich, MA, and Hannah (Mitch) Dunay of Hampstead, NC as well as one great-granddaughter Scottie Dunay who just turned one year old. Sharon is also survived by her son Chad (Tracy) of Montclair, NJ, one brother (David), several brother and sister in-laws, countless nephews/nieces, and so many, many, friends who she thoroughly enjoyed visiting and staying in contact with over the years!
Sharon was predeceased by her husband Bill (Narby) Narburgh who passed away in 1992, her daughter Cassandra who passed away in 2018, and two sisters Judith Petz and Pamella Daigler who passed away in 2018 and 2020 respectively.
She is in now heaven reunited with her husband Bill and her daughter Cass.
Calling hours will be held at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home at 21 West Avenue Albion, NY from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25. A memorial Mass will immediately follow at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sharon Narburgh’s name may be made to either the Boston University School of Medicine Amyloid Research Fund (https://www.bu.edu/amyloid/donate/) or the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (https://donate.bbrfoundation.org/). Both charitable organizations are close to our family’s heart due to Bill’s and Cassandra’s passing.

James A. “Jim” Hall

He was predeceased by his father, Donald Hall. He is survived by his loving mother, Mary (Fletcher) Hall; his devoted wife of 34 years, Lisa (Albone) Hall; his children, Travis Hall and Kelsey (Ryan) Hewitt; his brothers, Jeff (Jakie Andrews) Hall and David (Lori Riddle) Hall; and his granddaughters, Gracelynn and Adaline Hewitt. Jim also leaves behind an extended family, including 19 brothers and sisters-in-law, over 40 nieces and nephews, and over 40 great-nieces and nephews, Truly a small village that he loved and was proud to be a part of.
Jim was a pillar of strength, a man of loyalty, hard work, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. He lived a life defined by the core values he not only believed in, but passed down through generations – loyalty, independence, responsibility, and grit. He showed up without fail to every call for help. Whether it was building something from scratch or fixing what seemed unfixable, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do.
Professionally and personally, Jim was always first in line to help others. He was a dedicated worker for National Grid (Niagara Mohawk) for over 30 years, helping those in need, retiring at the age of 58. Whether it was braving storms in the middle of the night, traveling out of state to assist after natural disasters, or climbing power lines in freezing conditions, he never hesitated to answer the call for help. His dedication extended far beyond the job to neighbors, friends, and family, offering time and energy wherever it was needed. He taught his children the meaning of hard work, and the humor in tough love.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy and peace in hunting, fishing, and camping; passions he shared with those closest to him. These moments in nature were more than hobbies; they were a way for him to connect, reflect, and create lasting memories with family and friends.
One of the greatest joys of Jim’s life was spending time with his two granddaughters, Gracelynn (7) & Adaline (3). He formed a close and loving bond with them, always showing up with patience, laughter, and that special “Papa” kind of love. The connection he had with them was deep and enduring — a true highlight of his later years.
Jim had a gift for making people smile, whether it was with his cheesy dance moves, corny jokes, or perfectly timed one-liners. Time and again, he proved himself to be a devoted family man. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, laughter, and generosity.
An hour of visitation will be held on Friday, June 20 from 4-5PM, immediately followed by a memorial service at 5PM at the New Hope Community Church (First Baptist Church), 203 W. Center St., Medina. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Share condolences at www.cooperfuneralhome.com.

John Pulaski

The youngest of four children, John was born December 31,1976, in Medina, NY, to the late Charles Pulaski and his loving mother and trusted barber RoseAnn (Shevitski) Pulaski.
His siblings were a powerful influence in his life and created a strong appreciation for family. John was destined to entertain others, having affectionately being named “Razzle Dazzle” by his sister and lifelong karaoke partner, Marie, before he even drew his first breath. His passion for music was forged in the bedroom he shared with his brother Chuck, whom John looked up to his entire life. From his sister Stephanie, John gained an appreciation for all things aesthetically pleasing and a desire to create.
John graduated from Medina High School in 1995, having excelled on the tennis courts, participating in lacrosse because it was as close to hockey as he could get, and proudly creating with friends a cable access show coined the Somewhat Secret Society of the Salamander. After attending some college at FLCC and working at Crossman Air Guns in Canandaigua NY, John relocated to Pennsylvania where he resided for the majority of his adult life.
He enjoyed having his family close by as they had returned to the area after John and his siblings completed high school. John was especially proud of his apartment on Bridge Street in New Cumberland, often bragging about it being prime real estate at the epicenter of all things happening – that he had everything he needed within a short drive, if not within walking distance.
John became familiarized with the streets of the area by landing a job as a delivery person for The Graphic Arts Studio, which solidified his love of graphic design. He made lifelong friends there, as well as by bartending at the White Hill Cafe and through his employment as a binder at Fry Communications.
John never met a stranger. His “gift of gab” enabled him to connect with almost anyone with whom he crossed paths. He maintained friendships from every phase of his life, and despite one of his many nicknames being “Judgy John”, he saw the best in everyone. He valued human connection and utilized his vast knowledge of music, his sense of humor, and storytelling skills to bring people closer together.
Shared experiences were paramount to him. Whether it was a wild dream he had the night before, the first taste of something he couldn’t wait to eat, a fond memory he was reliving, or songs that were stuck in his head at 3 a.m., it meant more if it was shared. He was a master at selecting songs that were appropriate to the current circumstance or mood. The volume at which he preferred to share his music with his neighbors brought John and the New Cumberland PD together on multiple occasions.
In late 2019 an acquaintance, Heather Cummings, who he had met almost 20 years prior while visiting close friends in his hometown, reached out to share a random dream she had about John. Heather grew up in Lyndonville, NY, and their lives were loosely intertwined in many ways, unknown by them, for many years before that dream sparked a conversation in which John shared some tunes. Late night chats and “music lessons” developed into a long-distance relationship that eventually prompted him to leave his cherished apartment and the city life to move to the edge of the Adirondacks. It was there that he got married and proudly became a stepfather. The peaceful country life suited him far better than he could have imagined.
His final years involved many campfires, birdwatching, and stargazing. He proudly made wooden baseball bats at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Dolgeville, NY before being diagnosed with cancer.
John continued to find joy in every moment, and beauty in everything he laid eyes upon throughout his battle. He stayed true to himself, maintaining an incredible sense of humor, and rocking out to loud music until the very end. He will be remembered as a gentle giant who loved so many things very fiercely, who knew just enough about any topic to be dangerous and partied like a rock star.
John was predeceased in death by his father, Charles Pulaski of Steelton, PA in 2015, as well as his brother-in-law and built-in best bud Doug Simpson of Medina, NY in 2017. His beloved cat Alley, cherished fish Boris, and bonus cat Tay Tay were also waiting to greet him on the other side.
John is survived by his mother, RoseAnn Pulaski of Steelton, PA; his Ride or Die, Partner in Crime and Devoted Wife, Heather (Cummings) Pulaski; his step-daughter, Ella Mahnke; their bipolar cat, Swizzlesticks, in both love and-laws, John and Kathleen Cummings; brother, Charles (Annette) Pulaski; sisters, Stephanie (Charlie) Klinger and Marie Simpson with her fiancé Rich Kenward; sisters-in-law, Sarah and Allyson Cummings; lifelong best friend, Marty Hobbs; and besties, Tiffani Funk and Craig Anderson. He also leaves behind many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral services or gravesite per John’s wishes. A Halloween Party and Celebration of Life is currently being planned for the end of October in Caroga Lake, NY. John wished that in the future, those who wish to “visit” him attend a concert in his honor (not country or rap!!) and spend time admiring the natural beauty that all too often gets overlooked. He felt he could best be honored by remembering to appreciate every moment and connect with as many people as possible.
Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family operated, Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in John’s name to the Children’s Miracle Network or supporting public radio. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to both the Bassett cancer center in Herkimer, NY and Hospice of Herkimer County for fighting alongside John and treating him like family. In addition, John and Heather are beyond grateful for the efforts of John and Kathleen Cummings whose constant support ensured they were able to make the most of the little time they had together.

He was a past member of the Lyndonville Fire Department, Knights of Columbus, served on the Yates Town Planning Board, Lyndonville Lions Club, including important roles with the Fourth of July fireworks, chicken barbecue and parade. Additionally, he was a Lector for St. Joseph’s and Holy Trinity Churches.
As a lover of sports, and lifelong Bills fan, Mark was an enthusiastic coach for a myriad of sports – football, soccer and basketball. However, he harbored an intense love for coaching baseball, something he did for over fifty years. Outside of coaching and teaching, Mark was also a Senior Class Advisor, Drama Director, and cafeteria monitor; all roles he relished as opportunities to cement lasting relationships with the students of LCS.
Throughout the years, he received many honors for his works, numerous sportsmanship awards, and several Coach of the Year awards, both at the league and sectional level. The students of Lyndonville recognized Mr. Hughes several times by dedicating the yearbook to him, as well as acknowledging him as the Teacher of the Year.
Left to carry on his legacy are his beloved wife of over fifty years, Virginia (Wolfe); his children, Katie (Patrick) Whipple, Chris (Anita) Hughes, Megan (Eric) Gremli and Bridget (Ryan) Demorest; and the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Jack and Elizabeth Whipple, Cole and Gavin Hughes, Addy, Sam, Ben and Maggie Gremli, and Riley, Maren and Wilder Demorest. Additionally, he is survived by his aunt, Catherine “Kiki” Hughes; siblings, Cheryl Hughes, Jeanine Shaw, Nancy (Marshall) Haney, Molly Pyc, Rosemary (William) Rausch, Amy Schwartz, Scott (Ardyth) Hughes and Jeremy (Jacquie) Hughes; as well as his in-laws, mother-in-law, Rita Wolfe; brother-in-law, Roger (Sandy) Wolfe; and sisters-in-law, Vickie Wolfe, Terri (John) Lubahn, Michele (Brad) Bokman and Kathy (Chris Noyse) Wolfe; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mark was known for his humor and stories. His loving knack to provide nicknames to those he met truly reflects that Mark never met a stranger. He lived life fully—with joy, generosity, and that unforgettable laugh. The passion he brought to everything was unmatched. Ever the teacher, Mark taught those left behind to hold true the universal concepts of family, faith, loyalty, humor, love, compassion and empathy. He valued hard work, and lived his life with zeal, endurance and grace.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the numerous people who have expressed support, prayers, help, and wonderful stories of Mark. It is a real testament to the person that Mark was and the legacy he has left.
“When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love that they left behind.” Well done, good and faithful servant.
