Walter V. Wochna

Walter was a “homebody” who enjoyed gardening and fixing things, thus earning him the titles of “Mr. Fix-it” and “Jack of all trades.”
Mr. Wochna was predeceased by his wife, Cheryl; and a brother, Michael Francis Wochna.
He is survived by his son, Bradley W. Wochna of Kendall; and a daughter, Susan (Larry Shompert) Haibach of Kendall.
There will be no visitation. Walter’s service and interment will be held privately in Millville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Shirley June Robertson

Shirley was known for her cooking and baking. Macaroni and cheese was one of her favorite dishes to make. There were always fresh baked cookies for snacks at the house for her family to enjoy. She loved to watch birds from her back window, especially hummingbirds. Shirley was an avid collector of cruets and was very proud of her collection, oftentimes pointing out her favorites.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George, on Oct. 3, 2017.
Shirley is survived by her children, Charles Robertson, Wayne Robertson, Beth (Glenn) Moy, and Amy (David) VanDetta; grandson, Dustin (Natasha) Moy; sister, Marian (James) Moore; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held by the family at Hillside Cemetery in Holley.

May Ella Bythewood

May Ella was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kendall Mills, and a member of the Eastern Star Group. She loved to bake and cook, and she enjoyed feeding people. She also had a green thumb, and she loved her plants and gardening. May Ella was a very social person who would help anyone in need as she could.
Mrs. Bythewood was predeceased by her husband, Emory Bythewood.
She is survived by her significant other, Parra Martinez; brothers, Renard (Nancy) Powell of Brockport, David (Gloria) Powell of Florida, and Lynn (Ethel) Powell of North Carolina; sisters, Jane Moody of Kent, Mary Magalene Smith of North Carolina, and Alice Powell of Brockport; sister-in-law, Willie L. Cox of Florida; several nieces and nephews, who she treated as her children; as well as a host of other family and friends.
There will be no calling hours. Private service and interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.

Glenn E. Woolston

Glenn was a member of Gaines Congregational Church and sang in their choir. He was also a member of the Albion Rotary Club, Busy Buddies and St. Mary’s Archers Club, and he was a lifetime member of the Carlton Fire Department. Glenn was one of the founding members of the Gaines Valley Airport and the Experimental Aircraft Association, where he volunteered his time with the Young Eagles Flyers Club, consisting of 71 children he would take flying. He served as Town Justice and Councilman for the Town of Carlton.
He was a dairy farmer, a school bus driver and a plumber, and he worked at T.J. Lipton’s and for the Albion and Orleans correctional facilities as a senior maintenance worker. He was co-owner of Cedar Valley Lodging in Waterport and owned Parish NY Snowmobile Camp with his cousin, Ken Drew. Glenn restored his father’s 1915 Ford Model T and his 1909 Brush Motor Car, which is on display at the Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, N.Y. He was also a carpenter who built a kayak, a speed boat named “Little Devil,” a 26-foot thunderbird sailboat, three homes, and an experimental CH701 Zenith “yellow bird” airplane. He also built and sold shore birds and children’s rocking horses. Glenn loved spending time with his grandchildren, teaching and building elevators, model airplanes, scooters, wooden toy guns and doll houses with them. Glenn built flag poles for each of his grandchildren to put at their homes. He enjoyed motorcycles, downhill skiing, hunting, fishing, and playing the ukulele and the harmonica. He loved to sing, especially songs from the World War Two era. He and his wife, Irene, loved to travel; and they traveled extensively throughout the world. His family always looked forward to his popcorn balls and homemade bread at Christmas.
Glenn was predeceased by his brothers, Merle, William (Edna), and Lee (Margaret).
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene; his children, Rodney (Donna), Donna (Michael) Smith, and Dana (Lynda); grandchildren, Shaun (Elissa) and Evan (Tiffany) Smith, Ryan (Mattea) Woolston, Jessy (Kyle) Holz, Shane Woolston, Lysa (Ken) Leek and Dale Woolston; great-grandchildren, Kyle Niederhofer, Ben and Aubree Leek, Ava, Caden Woolston, Colton, Maddox, Garrett, Graydon Smith, Lucas and Lucy Holz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His graveside service will be at the convenience of the family at Otter Creek Cemetery.

Bran E. Harvey
Bran E. Harvey, 48, of Chicago, Ill. and formerly of Albion, passed away May 24, 2020 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Bran is survived by his wife, Lisa Forde; his daughters, Nora and Frannie of Chicago; his mother, Ann (Donald) Brown of Albion; his father, Bruce Harvey of Penn Yan; and his sister, Staci Graham (Charles Breuilly) of Albion. He was the son-in-law of Frances Forde and the late Walter Forde; the brother-in-law of Ann (Bill) Murray, Roger Forde, Kelly (Marc) Mosciki, and the late Thomas Forde; as well as uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Albion High School, class of 1990. He went on to earn a degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; as well as a law degree from Loyola University Law School, Chicago.
His devotion to family, particularly his two daughters, his quick wit, and his love for music will be remembered by the many friends he made along life’s path.
Bran was a passionate musician and a member of several bands, including The Balltease Falcons, The Returnables, Teenage Imposters, and Junior High.
His services were held at the convenience of the family.

Harold D. McMullen
Harold D. McMullen, 77, of Albion, died May 27, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 29, 1942 in Rochester, a son of the late R. Roy and Ruth (Phinney) McMullen, and he lived in this area most of his life.
Harold graduated from Kendall High School in 1960. He worked at T.J. Lipton’s, and then went to work as a group leader at Kodak from 1962 to 1998. After retiring from Kodak, Harold drove school buses for Albion Central School and was affectionately known as “Grandpa” by his students. He loved all of his grandkids. He loved camping but, most importantly, he truly loved and was loved by his family. He could be seen at his children’s and grandchildren’s swim meets, band and chorus concerts, baseball games and soccer games.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Larry (Jo) McMullen.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jan (Verkest) McMullen; and his children, Shawn (Luann) McMullen, Coleen (Jay) Pahura, and Kevin (Karey) McMullen. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Shannon and Collin McMullen, Bobby and Alex Chevier, Nick and Zack McMullen, Hannah Pahura, Alicia, Dusty, Megan, Brianna, Zack and Nick Pahura, Troy Fidanza, Alyssa and Brianna McMullen. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Kathy (Brent) Jones and Eileen (Rob) Goodwin; brother-in-law, Alan Verkest; several great-grandchildren, cousins, and close family friends.
His graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Caroline S. Curtiss
Caroline S. Curtiss, 85, of Albion, died May 22, 2020 in The Villages of Orleans following a long illness. She was born Nov. 26, 1934 in Clyde, N.Y. and lived in this area for over 50 years.
Caroline was a former employee of General Electric, and she enjoyed a variety of activities, including camping, riding motorcycles, sewing, crocheting and antiquing. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Mrs. Curtiss was predeceased by her husband, Harold; her brother, Sonny Dapolito; and two sisters, Adrian and Roselynn.
She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Lori) Curtiss of Schenectady, Mark Curtiss of Holley, and John (Delynn) Curtiss of Holley; her sister, Marie; two grandchildren, Josh and Jeffry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Due to the gathering restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 global pandemic, a celebration of Caroline’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Sandy Creek Cemetery.

William Wesley Moore
William Wesley Moore, 59, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2020 after a short illness.
He leaves behind his father and mother, James and Marian (Mower) Moore; his siblings, including Carol (Ray) Stern, Barbara (James) Passarell, and Gail (Stephen) Tipton; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill worked for many years in the building trades. He was an avid fisherman who loved the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.

Edward F. Fancher
Edward F. Fancher passed away May 24, 2020 after a heroic and inspiring battle with cancer. Ed was born July 17, 1965 to Lavern and Judy Fancher of Barre and attended Albion Central School, where he graduated with honors in the class of 1983. Following graduation, Ed entered the United States Marine Corps and served four years as a member of the Marine One Presidential Helicopter Squadron during the Reagan administration.
After returning to the Albion area, he enrolled in SUNY Brockport and graduated with degrees in accounting, business administration, and economics. Ed began his career at Community Action as Fiscal Director prior to becoming the Executive Director of Community Action of Orleans and Genesee in 2005. For 32 years, Ed served with passion and dedication, earning the respect and admiration of all the administrative staff and employees of the agency. He was a calming and caring presence, working with clients and contractors alike.
Ed exemplified a life of service above self. He served as treasurer of the Albion Rotary Club, the Albion High School Alumni Foundation, and the Iroquois Trail Boy Scouts of America. He previously served on the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce and Medina Savings & Loan boards of directors. Showing the personification of the saying, “… you can always give your time,” Ed was also a volunteer for Hospice of Orleans and Holy Family Parish.
Ed will be remembered as a selfless giver of his time and talents. He could fix anything and frequently was called upon by family and friends for help. Ed loved singing in the choir at Holy Family Parish, camping, racquetball, golf, rock music, motorcycle riding, and tractor rides with his grandsons. As a sports enthusiast, he was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. Ed brought humor, fun and sarcastic wit to all events, and in the loving, profound and innocent words of his grandson, “Papa makes the sun shine brighter!”
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Christine; his three children, who were the joy of his life, Justine (Jason) Arpag, Kyle Fancher (Lauren Mattelliano), and Janelle Fancher (Miles Walton). Ed was the proud Papa of his adored grandsons, Greyson, Harrison and Carson. He is also survived by his siblings, Sandra Bastedo (Joe Reasinger), Susan Fancher (Mark Engebretson), Gail (Kevin) Streicher, and William (Kelly) Fancher; his in-laws, Walter and Gina Boothby; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Terra and Rick Blount; as well as many cherished family members and friends.
Edward was predeceased by his parents, Lavern and Judy Fancher.

Cathy J. Miller

Cathy graduated a year early from Medina High School, class of 1971, so she could marry the love of her life, the late Ronald J. Miller. Together, they made their home in Medina and raised three sons. At first, Cathy was a stay-at-home mother. In the 1980s, she went to work as a classroom aide at Towne Elementary School. Lastly, she worked as an accountant for the Public Health Department of Orleans County, from which she retired in November 2016. Even after her retirement, Cathy’s care and commitment continued while she served as a consultant, advocating for disadvantaged children. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, and socializing with her group of tightly-knit friends, catering several parties with them. Most of all, Cathy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
Cathy is survived by her mother, Verona Pritchard of Medina; three sons, Jeffrey (Marcy Paron) of Atlanta, Ga., Timothy Miller of Richmond, Va., and Kristofer Miller of Albany, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Nate, Carter, Isabel, Zachary and Edith; a brother, Donald (Susan) Pritchard of Mendon, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Due to precautions associated with the pandemic, a memorial will be planned by family for a future date.

Mary L. Sailus

Mary was a communicant of St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Holley and, earlier in her life, was an active member of the Orleans County Home Bureau. She enjoyed bowling and birdwatching. However, as a family-oriented woman, her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the fact that she shared the same birthday as Mickey Mouse.
Mrs. Sailus was predeceased by her husband, Albert; and her brothers, Salvatore and Vincent Marchesoni.
She is survived by her children, Ann Marie Jermyn of Rochester, Martin (Joanna) Sailus of Newark Valley, N.Y., and Andrew (Rosemary) Sailus of Holley; her grandchildren, Monica, Rebecca, Cherie, Owen and Anna; her sister-in-law, Pauline Marchesoni; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Due to the guidelines issued regarding social gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mary’s Memorial Mass will take place at a later date. Her interment will take place privately in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Frances A. Saeva

Mrs. Saeva was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the Garret Club. She worked for nearly 20 years as a secretary at Albion Agencies. She enjoyed going bowling, golfing, playing bingo, and spending time at area casinos.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Nunzio; and her siblings, Grace, Josephine, Dolly, Libby, Kitty, Rose, Charlie, Joe and Jack.
Frances is survived by her children, Kathy (Patrick) Weaver, Richard (Cathy) Saeva and Karen Plummer; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Albion.

Vera J. Brege
Vera J. Brege, 94, of Middleport, died May 24, 2020 at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport. She was born Sept. 25, 1925 in the Town of Shelby, a daughter of the late Carl and Augusta (Mietz) Reabold, and she lived in this area most of her life.
She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the Bible Study Group and the Woman’s Service Guild. Vera worked for many years as a billing clerk at Garlock Office Products in Medina. She enjoyed pressing wildflowers.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, in 1977.
She is survived by several cousins.
Her graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery.

Richard Vincent Derry

He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, and he loved to play golf, bridge, chess, cribbage and tennis. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was wounded in action and later was awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from Medina High School, received his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Buffalo, and earned his Master of Education at Canisius College. He taught math at the Starpoint Central School District and retired in 1986.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Gracey Derry; daughters, Lisa (Alan) Boyer and husband Alan of Rochester; grandchildren, Robert Boyer and Tricia Titus and husband Gerald; Carole Oaks and husband Andrew of Oaks Corner; grandchildren, Dr. Zachary Oaks and wife Christine; Abigail Sturgis and husband William; Dr. Alexandria Hlinka and husband Jonathan; John Theodore Oaks and wife Chloe; son, John Derry and wife Christine of Springboro, Ohio; grandson, Nicholas; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Louise Franchell.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alexander, Charles and Edward Derry; and his sisters, Angeline Ball and Dorothy Outz.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to the caring staff and physicians at Avow Hospice and Naples Community Hospital. They are truly angels on earth.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, a memorial service will be held later this year in Western New York.

Betty Pafk

Betty married Lawrence Pafk in 1948. She worked at Bell Telephone and at Sylvania in Batavia, and she always shared chores on the dairy farm while raising a family. Later on, she switched from cows to horses, helping at her son’s horse farm, and still sharing goodness with her children, grandchildren, and whomever else she could help. An avid Bills fan, Betty loved cooking and baking, and she was best known at St. Michael’s Church in Akron for her mac and cheese when needed.
Betty is survived by her children, Gary (Diane) Pafk and Keith (Lori) Pafk; and two grandchildren, Neil (Meg) Pafk and Kyle Pafk. She was from a family of eight. Her seven other siblings are the late Elmer (late Liz) Wagner, late Francis (late Stanley) Benben, Richard (late Joanne) Wagner, Esther (Richard) Brown, late Carol (late Carly) Schuebel, late Lois (Bob) Ayler, and Nancy (late Norman) Forbes. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, of whom she was proud.
The memorial service will be private.

Lucille B. Lockwood

Lucille enjoyed bingo, lottery scratch-offs, and talking with friends. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when possible.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Larry Geikus.
She is survived by her children, Frank “Jim” (Donna) Lockwood of Knowlesville, Susan (Peter) Palmeri of Waterloo, N.Y., Scott (Diane) Lockwood of Penn Yan, Sherrye Tanner of Titusville, Fla., Jeannie (Alan) Groves of Chesapeake, Va., and Randy Branch of Maryville, Pa.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ella M. Langford W. Dobbins

Lank was a member of Morton Baptist Church for 82 years and Social Lodge #713 F&AM for 69 years, where he was Past Master. He was a second generation fruit and vegetable farmer in Kendall for many years, and later went to work as an elevator technician at Kodak for 30 years. Lank loved gardening and yard work and was best known for his meticulous lawn, his fruits and vegetables, and his endless stories. Most of all, he loved giving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren rides on his beloved Kubota tractor. Lank was devoted to his family and his church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Gertrude and Beatrice.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Audrey; children, Lisa (Dale) Rowley of Hamlin, Kathleen (Daniel) Tarshus of Penn Yan, Karen (Ray) Bowen of Rochester, Ann (Patrick) Polasek of LaGrangeville, N.Y., Kevin (Kimberly) Dobbins of Kathleen, Ga., and Cynthia (Steven) Smith of Newburgh, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His memorial service will be held at Morton Baptist Church at a day and time to be announced. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

James F. Lindsay

Jim graduated from Medina High School in 1948 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. Stationed in France, he served as an Army medic and was discharged in 1953. In May of that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Sally King. They resided in Medina, where he worked for his father at Lindsay/Gregory (now Case’s Paint). He also worked for Bramer Electric, and he retired in 1993 as an electrician at Harrison Radiator in Lockport.
Jim loved his family above everything and was always there to help when needed. He was a handyman who could fix anything, and he was very generous with his talents in the community. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a charter member of the American Legion, and was a longtime member of Medina United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed playing euchre (he “never lost two games in a row”) and enjoyed discussing current events with his friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Elsie May; and a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lindsay.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sally Lindsay of Medina; son, David (Brenda) Lindsay of Medina; daughter, Carol (Dean) Bellack of Medina; grandchildren, Emily (Joel) Stavange, Rebecca (Ben) Schiffer, Jake Lindsay, Adam (Yana) Bellack and Aleena (Robert) Emerson; and three great-grandchildren, Harriet, Mabel and Cameron.
Services will be private, and a graveside committal service will be held in Boxwood Cemetery at a later date.
The family appreciates any memorials to be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Olga Fava Dean

She raised a family of seven children. Olga worked for many years at Fisher-Price in Medina, where she made many close friends. Olga was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus R.C. Church in Medina. She enjoyed playing bingo and was a constant prize winner. An amazing cook, Olga will be remembered for her amazing lasagna and tasty fruit pies. Her sweet smile, jokes, and maternal love will be affectionately remembered by her loved ones. A biography could not possibly tell all of her tales and travel trips that she so enjoyed.
She is survived by her seven children, Donna Dean (Arthur M.D.) Mruczek of Batavia, Paul Dean of Venice, Fla., Diane Muzychenko of Cleveland, Ohio, Jerry (Carolyn) Dean of Morristown, Tenn., Denise (Christopher) Melcher of Elizabethtown, Ky., David (Mayo) Dean of Jacksonville, Fla., and Matthew Dean of Jacksonville; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Anna Fava; and grandson-in-law, Patrick Basior.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Marcy (Mruczek) Basior in 2010; husband, Donald L. Dean in 2004; and brothers, Gino Fava and Edwin Fava.
A private graveside committal service will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date.

Carol M. Eddy
Carol M. Eddy, 79, of Albion, died May 23, 2020 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia following a long illness. She was born Feb. 6, 1941 in Holley to Louis and Florence Biaselli and was a lifetime resident of this area.
Carol worked in the deli at Bell’s in Albion, and then for Dale’s Supermarket for many years. She enjoyed cooking, was an avid Elvis Presley fan, and collected M&M memorabilia.
Mrs. Eddy was predeceased by her husband, Robert; brothers, Willy, Louis, Allan and Vincent Biaselli; and sisters, Florence Riches, Beverly Walls and Laura Miers.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Eddy of New Jersey; daughter, Cynthia (Gary) DeLaura of Albion; sister, Donna Biaselli of Medina; grandchildren, Rachel, Becca, Cheryl, Caroline and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Adrien, Braeydon, Cassie, Elijah and Riley; as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation, and private services will take place at the convenience of the family.
