Kay Loraine Schultz, 75, took a bow and passed from this world on March 21, 2020. She was born Jan. 18, 1945 in Corning, NY, a daughter of the late Carl and Edith Gurnsey.

Those who knew her describe Kay as a feisty, funny, and fiercely loving woman. She was a bright spark, with a big, joyful laugh and a fondness for irreverent jokes. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother and friend – she often “didn’t know what to tell you” when you were upset or worried, but was always there to listen and to offer sound advice. At home or at work over her many years of service at the Orleans County Probation Department and Ames Department Store, Kay wasn’t afraid to speak her mind – and there’s a good chance that she was the most stubborn person you would ever meet in your life. She was an avid reader, a restorer of furniture, a lover of gardening, a frequenter of garage sales, and a proud member of the Albion High School Class of 1963. 

Kay was the first to know the best gossip, and somehow she could always soothe even the crankiest of babies. Kay loved a good party – especially if she was the one planning it! Kay perfected her first husband’s mother’s meatballs until she could make them as if she had been born Italian – and she always brought the macaroni salad to the potluck. Kay was a self-proclaimed and unapologetically proud “crazy cat lady.”

Kay is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Duane Schultz; sons: Chris Finney, Christopher (Adrienne B) Schultz, and Nicholas (Aimee) Schultz; daughters: Stephanie (Aaron) Finney Levene, Jodi (Mike) Schultz-Waild, and Karen (Bill) McDonald; grandchildren: Austin, Tarin, Keith, Victoria and Zoe; sister and best friend, Marilyn Rouse; dear brother, Carl (Carolyn) Gurnsey; all her incredible nieces and nephews; and last but certainly not least, her cats – Raj, Sylvie, Stanley, Gigi, Fifi and Lizzie.

As the world opens up again, the family of Kay Schultz invites those who knew and loved her to a Happy Hour to celebrate her memory on Fri., July 16.  Drop by the Sacred Heart Club, 189 N. Peggy L. Kams, 80, of Medina, entered into rest on Wed., July 7, 2021 at the Orchard Manor Nursing & Rehab Center.

Born June 13, 1941 in Tide, Pa., Peggy was a daughter of the late William and Imogene (Muckle) Moore, Sr. She worked for Owens-Illinois in Brockport, where she met her husband, David F. Kams, whom she married on April 26, 1969. Mrs. Kams went on to work for many years for Johnston’s Linens in Medina. Peggy was an avid bingo player and loved going to the casino. She was known to be an exceptional cook and baker. Above all, Peggy loved her family dearly.

Survivors include her loving husband, David Kams of Medina; son, Raymond Bailey; daughter, Christine (Gary) Scholes of Medina; grandchildren: Aric Bailey and Emily Kams; great-grandchild, Adalyn Bailey; step-grandchildren: Randi and Brandon Scholes; several step-great-grandchildren; siblings: William Moore, Jr. of Fla., Dorothy (Larry) Stockwell, Sr. of Medina, Bud (Garnett) Moore of NC, Deborah Whiting of Ala. and Connie Moore of Batavia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sons: William and Thomas Bailey; brothers: Richard (Colleen) Moore and David Moore; sister in-law, Carol Moore; brother in-law, Roger Whiting; and mother in-law, Marion Lindke.

Vincent J. Flow III, 68 of Kendall, was called to his heavenly home on July 5, 2021 after a swift moving illness.

Vince is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara; daughters: Katie (Adam) Godlove, Lisa (Bradley) O’Connor; son, Vincent (Melissa) Flow IV; eight grandchildren; his mother, Dolores; sisters: Susan Flow (Michael Livesay) and Mary-Jo Ehrlich (Felix Ortiz); brother, Timothy (Nancy) Flow; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

He held among his greatest joys and accomplishments being a loving and dedicated husband, father and Papa.

Susan Cooper Eddy of Albion passed away on April 27, 2020.  She was born on Aug. 5, 1922 to Samuel A. and Dorothy H. (Shisler) Cooper. 

Sue was predeceased by her husband, Arthur B. “Dick” Eddy in 2011; her parents; sister, Mary C. Wagner; and twin brother, Samuel A. Cooper Jr.

Sue is survived by her daughters: Cristen C. (Maurice) Haltom of Ithaca, NY; Susan K. “Kim” (Richard) Remley of Albion and Anne B. (Bruce) Beaty of Greenwich, CT; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Albion on Fri., July 30 at 11 a.m. Interment was at Mt. Albion Cemetery on an earlier date. Robert James (Bob) Trembley, Sr., 78, husband of Mary Lou (Swan) Trembley for 31 years, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2021 in Fountain Inn, SC.

Bob was born in Lockport, NY  on July 15, 1942 to the late James and Florence (Laubacker) Trembley. He attended St. Mary’s School and Starpoint Central School in Lockport. He lived on Murdock Road in Medina for many years before moving to South Carolina.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Peggy (Graham) Trembley.

He is survived by son, Robert (Bobby) Trembley, Jr., daughters: Laura (Jody) Fortunato and Lisa (Bob) Ryan; stepchildren: John Licinio III and  Kathy Jones; sisters: Jane (Vinny) Zeh and Mary Joan Trembley; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His funeral took place in South Carolina.

A Going Home Celebration will take place at 11 a.m. on Sat., July 17, 2021 at Solid Rock Assembly of God, 8590 Rochester Rd., Gasport. Memorial donations may be made to the Salt & Light Festival at Solid Rock; Buffalo Adult & Teen Challenge; or to a charity of your choice.

Dorothy M. Murray, 88, of Albion passed away on July 6, 2021. She was born March 24, 1933 in Basom, NY to the late Raymond and Hazel (Ackerson) Quible.

Dorothy always enjoyed putting on a meal for every holiday, especially Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also held picnics on Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Labor Day, always bringing family and friends together. She spent time quilting, knitting, and basket weaving. Dorothy loved her family dearly and they were all so special to her.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George on Aug. 8, 2011.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Albert (Debbie) Krause, Kathryn (Robert) Smith; grandchildren: Rachel (Brad) Stever, Christy (Christopher) Kron, Jennifer (Jeremy) McClellan, Chad (Nichole) Smith; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Florence.

There are no prior calling hours. A graveside service for Dorothy will be held Sat., July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Albion Cemetery (Please enter West gate, take a right at first intersection and look for blue tent).

Dennis K. Smith of Hendersonville, NC, formally from Albion, NY passed away peacefully at his home in Hendersonville on June 11, 2021. He was born Dec. 22, 1964. 

Dennis battled for numerous years with heart disease and diabetes. He was a 1984 graduate of Albion Senior High and Orleans Niagara BOCES Program in Auto Mechanics. He retired in 2015 from Kimberly Clark Berkley Mills in Hendersonville, NC.

Dennis was predeceased by his father, Richard W. Smith; mother, Irene B Smith; sisters: Mary O Smith, Martha Smith Adkins; brother, James P. Smith.

 He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tammy S Coots Smith; son, CPL Keith W. Smith; daughter-in-law, Kayla Owenby Smith; granddaughter, Carter B. Smith; sisters: Betty Ann Froman (Lonnie), Susan D Smith (Ron Roth); brother, Richard M Smith; sister-in-law, Sharon Smith (wife of the late James P. Smith); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his mother-in law, Susan J Paul of Albion; father-in-law, William D Coots of Albion (Kathy Britt Coots); brother-in-law, Michael W. Coots (Michelle Coots) of Waterport, Robert P. Coots (Linda Coots) of Albion; sister-in-­law, Jody L. States (Tony Gonzalez) of Melbourne, Fla. 

Dennis loved camping, cooking on the grill or smoker, doing plastic car models and watching old Western movies. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling with his wife and his dogs (Zoe, Luna, Rosy and Bella). He loved to travel to different campgrounds with his wife in their camper. He loved building great pieces of wood work or furniture. He will be greatly missed by all. 

There was a memorial service for Dennis at his favorite summer camping spot Sun., June 27, 2021. 

David E. “Papa Smurf” Ehrenreich, 72 of Lyndonville, NY, entered into rest on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

Born on Sept. 3, 1948 in Albion, NY, he was the son of the late Carl and Wayve (Raymond) Ehrenreich.

David graduated from Lyndonville High School in 1966 and was employed at Birdseye until in 1968, when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.  As a U.S Marine he was stationed in Okinawa. He returned home in 1971 and on September 30, 1972 he married the former Mari Parsels and together raised two children. David worked as a truck driver for Fisher-Price for 23 years up until their closing. He also drove for Ryder and lastly, retired as a driver for Walmart in 2002. Papa Smurf was an avid spectator and fan for his children and grandchildren. He refereed basketball for Section 5 and 6 for many years. Along with his friend, Butch Reimer, they had many fond memories of when then would referee basketball games between the Buffalo Bills and the Lyndonville teachers. He was past President of the Lyndonville Little League and also played on various softball leagues. He was a diehard Buffalo Bills and Duke University fan.

David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mari; children: Kelly (Troy) Albone of Medina and Adam (Danielle Bateson) Ehrenreich of West Seneca; grandchildren: Zach (Jorgie Lang) Ehrenreich, Josh (Deseree Hughes) Klotzbach, Hunter Bateson and Timothy Ehrenreich; great-grandchildren: Evelyn and Easton. Also surviving are siblings: Richard (Monica) Ehrenreich of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, twin sister, Diane Walker of Lockport, Marian (Daryl Osborne) Pulis of Oswego, NY; and several nieces, nephews and good friends.

Relatives and friends may call on Sat., July 24, 2021 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina, NY 14103 where a memorial service will be held at Noon. Burial will be private for the family. (Casual dress is requested by the family)

Wanda E. Hollenbeck, 88 of Greece, NY and formerly of Albion, died July 5, 2021 unexpectedly after an illness.  

Wanda was born Jan. 1, 1933 to Lloyd and Anna (Scott) Corwin and raised by her father and his second wife, Clara Corwin.  She graduated from Cornell University, taught school, and held several other positions while raising her family.  Wanda was a woman with much grace and class who was very much loved by her family and friends.  She will be greatly missed.  

Mrs. Hollenbeck was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Richard, with whom she lived in several locations around the country and travelled the world in retirement.  She was also predeceased by her daughter, Beth DeWispelaere; and grandsons: John and Nathan DeWispelaere.  She is survived by her son, Paul (Linda) Hollenbeck; daughter, Rebecca Hollenbeck; granddaughter, Caren (Dean) Roberts and their children: Grace and Blake; grandson, Stephen (Rebekah) Hollenbeck and their children: Madison, Tessa, and Benjamin; and grandson, David (Tyffany) Hollenbeck.

Dorothy L. Batchellor, 98, formerly of Oak Orchard Road in the Town of Barre, passed away Dec. 2, 2020 at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia following a brief illness.

A memorial mass will be held on Fri., July 16, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Albion.

KENDALL – Virginia L. Roe, 56, died July 3, 2021 in Unity Hospital following a long illness. She was born June 29, 1965 in Brockport to Arthur and Arla (Weader) Snook and had spent her entire life in this area.

Virginia was employed as a Buildings and Grounds Technician for the County of Orleans. She enjoyed going to the lake, loved flowers and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Roe was predeceased by a son, Adam Roe.

She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, David Roe; children, Daniel Roe of Kendall and Amy (Ron) Brigham of Medina; grandchildren, Daniel Jr., David, Marissa, Chad, Madalynne, Evelynne, Eleanor and Kyle; several brothers and sisters as well as several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 16650 State Rt. 31-Holley, on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Private service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. MEDINA – Robert Simpson, of Center Valley, Pennsylvania, formerly of Medina passed away on May 9, 2020 at the age of 88.

He was born in Albion and spent his adult life in Medina. Robert was married to Florence (Nenni) for 57 years before her death in 2012. He is survived by his three children, Dennis (Shelley) Simpson, Gary (Kelly) Simpson, and Janet (Mark) Gooch, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He went on to work for Niagara Mohawk for 38 years. He was a life member of the Medina Council #651 Knights of Columbus and also belonged to the Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion. Robert enjoyed model making and wood working. His witty humor, strong ethics, and dedication to his wife and children will always be remembered.

Robert will stay forever in the hearts of all of us who were blessed to have known him, as wife, son, daughter, sister, brother or friend.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle St., Medina. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors was completed prior in May 2020.

Lee H. Hellert, age 74, of Shelby, entered into rest unexpectedly at his home on Tue., June 29, 2021.

Born March 19, 1947 in Medina, Lee was a son of the late Howard E. and Eileen (Hint) Hellert. He was a graduate of Medina High School and shortly after graduating went on to have a career with the New York State Department of Transportation as a crane operator for the canal system. Lee married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Reed on Dec. 4, 1976. He was a proud and active member of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department for over 55 years and was a parishioner of the Alabama Full Gospel Church. Retiring from the New York State Canal Corporation in 2001, Lee also did various construction work alongside his brother, David.

Predeceased by his wife, Betty Hellert on May 12, 2020. Survivors include his brother, David E. Hellert of Shelby; sisters: Louise (John) Seifart of Lyndonville and Ruth (Dwight) Wilson of Canandaigua; nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Kenneth) Haylett, Michael (Samantha) Green, David (fiancé, Lisa) Wilson, Brian (Jocelyn) Wilson and Christy Wilson; and seven great-nieces and nephews.

A graveside committal service will be held on Thu., July 8 at 11 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby. Pastor Russ Peters will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.

Kaye Overbye, 85, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed peacefully on June 11 in Portland, Conn. after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Born in Middleport, NY, Kaye was the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth Annable. Growing up in Johnson’s Creek, NY Kaye attended Royalton Hartland High School where she was a standout cheerleader and graduated from Alfred State College and later received her B.S. in Nursing from Dutchess Community College. A natural, inspiring and gifted caregiver, she worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY before working at Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Conn. and later at Hartford Hospital.

While having an illustrious nursing career, Kaye selflessly raised seven children in Pleasant Valley, NY before moving to Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass. with her husband Donald where six of her seven children graduated. Besides her dedication to husband and children, Kaye was known as the always reliable and benevolent neighborhood Mom as “Mrs. O” opened her doors to all from neighbor’s children, at-risk inner city children, and unwed mothers. 

Wife of late husband, Donald A. Overbye and the loving partner of the late, Joe Radziewicz, Kaye is survived by her sister, Carol Hussey; nine children: Mark, Michael, Mitchel, Laurie, Jay, Jill, Christopher, Kim and Krista, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

James M. Brazzell, 46, of Barker, NY, passed away on Thu., June 24, 2021 at his home.

Born on Dec. 21, 1974 in Medina, NY, he was the son of the late William J. and Kathleen A. (Santillo) Brazzell.

James graduated from Medina High School in 1993 and attended Herkimer County Community College.

He was employed as an Asbestos Remover for Mark Cerrone Inc. of Niagara Falls. Besides being a dedicated father, James was an avid hunter and renowned sporting clay shooter. At one time was ranked #14 in New York.  James was an active member of the Medina Conservation Club.

James is survived by his life companion, Lindsay Bull; daughter, Lexi Brazzell, whom he enjoyed playing Fortnight with, both of Barker; brother, William D. (Justina) Brazzell; niece, Kati (James) Foley; nephews: Austin and Zach Brazzell, all of Medina; great-nephews: Jacob and Jaxon Foley; great-niece, Paisleigh and several aunts, uncles and cousins and many dear friends of the Bull family.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Sat., August 7, 2021 at St. Stephen’s R.C. Church, Middleport, NY 14105. Burial will be private for the family.

Gareth W. Stratton, 73 of Kendall passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tue., June 22, 2021.

Predeceased by his parents: Roy and Daisy Stratton; son, Gary Williams: mother of his children, Darlene Stratton.

He is survived by his daughter, Paula (Ryan) LaMay; son, Gareth Stratton Jr. (Cynthia); grandchildren: Ava, Austin, Tamra, Kayden; sister, Loretta (Bill) Jewsbury; brother, Kip (Yvette) Stratton; many nieces, nephews; and special friends: Susanne and Debbie.

Gareth proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, enjoyed driving his Mustang around town to visit family and friends and loved having his daily cup of decaf coffee. Gareth took multiple trips to Cape Cod, liked spending time at the beach, taking pictures with his Nikon camera and working out in the gym. He was heavily involved with helping others in AA and most importantly he loved to laugh with everyone. He was great at telling jokes and funny stories, ones that could bring you to tears.

Chad S. Rignall, 60, of Medina, NY, passed away on Mon., June 28, 2021 at the Symphony Manor of Lancaster.

Born on Jan. 3, 1961 in Orlando, Fla., he was the son of Mary (Fiegl) Rignall Shawver and the late Lawrence Rignall and his step-father, the late Glen Shawver.

Chad’s family moved to Lyndonville when he was 7 years old.  He graduated from Lyndonville High School in 1979. He returned to Florida and was employed as a Manager for a go-cart track. He returned to Lyndonville and was employed at Empire Coating of Albion and lastly at Takeform of Medina. Chad enjoyed watching and participating in anything to do with drag car racing, restoring classic cars, especially Ford Mustangs and attending car shows. He also enjoyed making model airplanes.

Besides his mother, Chad is survived by his two children: Cole Rignall of Medina and Phoebe Rignall of Barker; sister, Dawn (Patrick) Dean; half-sister, Jodi (Rich) Meredith; nephew, Kyle Evans; great-niece, Malia Evans, all of Fla.; and several other nieces and nephews.

Paula Mack was born Feb. 15, 1927 and passed away June 27, 2021.

Paula was predeceased by her husband Louis Mack. She is survived by her step-daughters: Shirley (Gary) Wolter, Patricia Mack; dear friend, Linda; sisters and several nieces and nephews in Germany; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Amy) Wolter, Chad Wolter, Bret (Stacey) Wolter; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Miranda, Chad Jr., Nathan and Nolan.

She came here from Germany in 1954 and went to work as a housekeeper for Dr. Thomas and his wife in Medina, NY. Later on she went to work for Newels Shirt factory where she stayed employed for several years. In 1968 she went to work for Harrison Radiator (GM) in Lockport, NY until her retirement in 1981. She enjoyed gardening and was a volunteer at Medina Hospital with Twig Association. She was a devoted member of St, Mary’s Church. She’ll be sadly missed by her family and many, many friends.

There will be no visitation hours. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rt. 63 N. Gravel Rd., Medina, NY on Fri., July 2 at 11 a.m.

Judy A. Chattin, of Kent, entered into rest on Wed., June 23, 2021 under hospice care at the Medina Memorial Hospital at the age of 73.

Born April 8, 1948 in Brockport, NY, Judy was a daughter of the late Bernard W. and Phyllis J. (Kulzer) Chattin. A homemaker, she raised two children, Philip and Kelly. Judy was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, which led her to various trips across the U.S. including New Orleans during the floods. Judy was an animal lover who took great care of her dogs and cats. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two grandchildren, Chad Gibson and Jesse Gibson.

Survivors include her son, Philip (Terri) Gibson; daughter, Kelly Gibson; grandchildren, Alex Gibson, Austin Washbon, Dylan Gibson, Krystal Mead, Katie Farewell, Judd Farewell, Jr. and Jessica Farewell; great-grandchildren, Maci Mae and Destiny Rae Gibson, Alisha Jones, Ryan Gibson, Nevaeh, Kamryn, Nahzi Farewell, Jai’Kerr Saddler, Azariah and Zahara Brown; two sisters, Sandra (Jack) Broer and Sharon (Wayne) Dent; also several nieces and nephews.
