Lawrence A. Kochanowski, 55, of Medina, NY passed away peacefully after a short illness on Nov. 15, 2021 at ECMC in Buffalo, NY.

After graduating from Lake Wales High School in Florida he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Larry was a proud member of the 101st Airborne and was stationed in Germany. He married the love of his life, Kathryn on Oct. 31, 2003 and eventually moved from Orlando, Fla. to Medina, NY in 2008. He loved exploring WNY and all it had to offer, especially fishing and checking out small local restaurants. He was a food lover! Larry was a member of the Jr. Wilsons Sportsman Club and the Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Alex and LaVerne Kochanowski; and brothers: Alexander and Danny Kochanowski.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Slattery-Kochanowski; brothers and sisters: Don (Denise) Ott,  Art (Suetta) Clawson, Bob (Sharon) Kochanowski, Lori (Paul) Gleichsner, Chuck (Darlene) Kochanowski, Charmaine (Bob) Beatty, Jim (Linda) Kochanowski, Mary (Marty) Miller; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and his son, AJ Kochanowski.

Jazmond M. “Jazz” Brady, 32, of Rochester, NY, passed away on Tue., Nov. 23, 2021 at his home.

Born on May 23, 1989 in Rochester, NY, he was the son of Philip Brady and Michelle Land. He attended Albion High School and worked various construction jobs including: painting, carpenter and roofer. Jazmond was known as being the life of the party wherever he went. Most of all, he enjoyed being a loving father to his children.

Besides his parents, Jazmond is survived by his children: Keyannah, Colby, Mars, and Geavonna La’Mariyah; siblings: Shadoan Land, Philip Michael Brady, Jayquan Brady, Alexis Land; and numerous aunts and uncles.

ALBION – Kristine (Bowles) Junot, 50, passed away November 26, due to complications from COVID. Kristine was born August 25, 1971 in Batavia, the daughter of Marcia (Chick) Bowles and the late William Vrooman Bowles.

Kris was a 1989 graduate of Albion High School and excelled in music and dance. She will be remembered for the love of her family and foster animals, starting each day with a cup of coffee, her baking skills and being known as the go to mom.

She was predeceased by her father William December 4, 2020. Kristine is survived by her knight in shining armor, Allan Junot; children, Travis Robson, KyLee (Austin Genno) Robson, Jordynn Junot and Allysa Junot, Matthew and Bridget Allport, Cory McKee and Amber Stratton; her mother, Marcia Bowles; aunts, Mary Helen Conley and Jeanne Gradischer; nieces, nephews and cousins.

MEDINA – Sandra J. Kwiatkowski, 65, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the Orchard Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on July 17, 1956 in Medina NY, she was the daughter of Roger Coon and Marian Callaghan.

Sandra graduated from Medina High School in 1974 and was employed by the former Fisher-Price and Perry’s Ice Cream of Akron. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and loved the outdoors, especially while working in her beautiful flower garden and was known for her cooking, making several delicious meals for family and friends.

She is survived by a son, Patrick (Rebecca) Kwiatkowski of Elba; three grandchildren, Gabrielle Randazzo of New Orleans, LA, Mason Stringham and Cole Kwiatkowski, both of Elba; five siblings, Darlene (Ed) Fischette of Rochester, David (Eileen) Coon of Houston, TX, Jeff Coon of Lockport, Bonnie Baudendistle of Spencerport and Gary (Colleen) Allen of Tonawanda;  numerous nieces and nephews and her former husband, Jerome Kwiatkowski of Medina.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by a son, Brennan.

ALBION – Edith C. Murray, 98, formerly of Brooklyn, NY died Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the Martin-Linsin Residence in Albion after a short illness. Born April 21, 1923 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late John E. (Helen R. Higgins) Murray.

She grew up in Brooklyn and lived there all her life until coming to Medina in 2018 to live with her niece.

Edith worked as an executive secretary for American Re-Insurance Co. in Manhattan until she retired at the age of 65. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by four nieces and three nephews, Jane Paulhamus of Green Creek, NJ, John E. (Sue) Roxey of Dunnellon, FL, Gwendolen (James) Tuttle of Medina, Regina (Larry Poggioli) Murray of Brooklyn, John T. Murray of Staten Island, David (Fatima) Murray of Staten Island, and Lorraine (Chano) Cazarubbias of Bethlehem, PA; 20 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 10 great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

HOLLEY – Mary V. Radigan, age 71, passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2021. She was born January 13, 1950 in Rockbridge Baths, VA to the late John and Valerie (Simpson) Hart, Jr.

She graduated from Brockport High School in the class of 1968. Mary was a mother to many and everyone always enjoyed hearing her stories.

Mary is survived by her son, Robert (Jennifer) Radigan, siblings, Anna Hart, Diane Ridd, Carol Darch, Andrew (Julie) Hart, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MIDDLEPORT – Linda Urbach passed away November 23, 2021 in Mercy Hospital of South Buffalo. Born August 20, 1951 in Buffalo she was the daughter of Jack and Marion (Hall) Plueckhahn.

Linda worked for Kenmore Mercy Hospital where she was a medical assistant. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Urbach.

Linda is survived by her loving fiancé, Kurt Lewis; children, Jason (LeeAnne) Urbach and Courtney (John) Fiorello; siblings, Robert Plueckhahn, Paul (Sue) Plueckhahn, Brian (Shelcy) Plueckhahn, Diane (late Roger) Mundion, Terry (late Richard) Barcus, Cathy (Ronald) Warren, Carol Plueckhahn, Jackie (Vahid) Keranovic, Dale (Jennifer) Plueckhahn, Eric (June) Hutchinson, and late Gary (Sue) Plueckhahn; step-mother, Deborah Jackson Pluekhahn; step-siblings, Richard Fiske and Tiffany Fiske; also seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was involved with the social community in Lake Shore Park down in St. Petersburg, Florida as well as the Red Hat Society. Linda enjoyed life and she was the heart of her family and friends. She would do anything for anyone. Linda will be immensely missed.

James Newton, 64, of Medina, passed away on Nov. 21, 2021 after a long battle with esophageal cancer.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1957 in Medina, a twin son to the late Richard F. and Carol (Giambatista) Newton, Sr. Jim worked in property maintenance for years. He was a member of the East Shelby Volunteer Fire Co. for 15 years.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by sister, Toni Dunn; and brother, Richard F. Newton, Jr.

Survivors include his sons: James Newton, Jr. and Jeremy (Lisa) Newton; grandchildren: Gabe, Leah, Lilly, Ben and Gavin Newton; twin brother, Joseph (Elaine) Newton; stepbrother, Darryl Schultz; stepsister, Gerri Schultz; brother in-law, James Dunn; sister in-law, Dawn Newton; several nieces and nephews.

Brockport- It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the sudden unexpected passing of Gerald Edward Dowd. 

Originally of Clarendon, NY, Jerry was born to John and Dorothy Dowd on June 11, 1945. He graduated from Holley High School in 1963 as a star athlete. In 1965 he married Marjorie Lochner of Webster, NY where they started a family, having two sons: Kevin in 1966 and John in 1968. Jerry began an apprenticeship at Kodak where he retired as a top machinist after 30 years of employment. Jerry did not stop working after leaving Kodak. He was a member and assistant chief of the Clarendon fire department, a snow plow operator for nearly 45 years between Clarendon & Brockport, and finally a truck driver for a large area produce farm. Jerry loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Jerry was a loyal and honest friend to anyone in need. 

He is survived by his wife, Rose Mackanose Dowd; sons: Sgt Kevin Dowd and Dr. John (Julie) Dowd; six loving grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and twin sister, Geraldine Ward; and elder sister, Annette Thuman. 

Jerry is and forever will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at the Elks Club of Brockport, 4400 Sweden Walker Rd. on Fri., Nov. 26, 2-6 p.m. All that know Jerry are invited to attend and share in the joy of Jerry’s life. 

Jacobus M. “Jim” Oschmann, Sr., 82, of Brockport, formerly of Rochester/Kendall, NY and Sun City Center, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 23, 2021 after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was born March 28, 1939 in Den Haag, Holland to the late Abraham and Petronella (Heppener) Oschmann.

Jim emigrated to the United States as a teenager along with his parents, two brothers and a sister. In his youth at his new home, he played semi-pro soccer for the Holland-American team in Rochester. Jim worked various jobs during his life including, Eastman Kodak, he was the owner and operator of Bald Eagle Marina in Kendall for 15 years, truck driver, and most recently, his own handyman business in Sun City Center, Fla. He was a man that could fix anything and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, including family, friends, and strangers. Jim was one of the founding members of Coast Guard Auxillary Flotilla 48 and was a First Lieutenant of the Morton Fire Department while living in Kendall.

He was known for his great smile, good jokes and his loving heart.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers: Wim, Piet; and brother-in-law, Ben Uppenkamp.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol (Townsend) Oschmann; children: Jacobus “Jim” ( & Michelle) Oschmann, Jr., David (& Taryn Hagan) Oschmann, and Susan (& Chad Beach) Oschmann; brother, Abraham (& Liz) Oschmann, Jr.; sisters: Petronella “Nellie” Uppenkamp, and Cornelia Oschmann; sister-in-law, Hennie Oschmann; grandchildren: Kristopher (Katie) Leverenz, Cody (Sara) Steffen, David Oschmann, Jr., and Sammi Oschmann; great-grandchildren: Gemma, Leo, Marco Jacobus, Kade, and Bobby; and beloved rescued chihuahua, Munchkin.

Shirley Ann (Miller) Snowdon, 90, was born May 8, 1931 in Albion, NY and resided in Venice, Fla. Shirley passed away peacefully Oct. 20, 2021; in her home with family at her side.

Shirley thought of herself as a simple farm girl of modest means. Known by many loved ones as “MacGyver”, she enjoyed fixing things, loved gardening, cruising, casinos and her bingo. She was a hostess/assistant manager for a high end restaurant until her retirement in 1985.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Helen Miller; husband, William W.C. Snowdon; step-son, Michael Snowdon; and grandson, Jonathan D. Shidler.

She is survived by son, Eugene (Karen) Alcorn, IV, Venice, Fla.; daughters: Deborah (Richard) Cook, Waterport, NY; Susan (Dean) Shidler, Venice, Fla., Janet (Chris) Tyson, Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister, Eleanor Lockwood, Batavia, NY; brothers: Ralph (Joyce) Miller, Newark, Fla. and Robert Miller, Lakeland, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-granchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Kathlyn Ann (Webster) Rogers, 77, of Lyndonville, NY, departed on Nov. 21 , 2021, at home with family and pets by her side. She was born April 18, 1944 in Clarendon, NY to Frank and Sevilla Mae Webster.

Kathlyn graduated from Niagara County Community College’s nursing program. She was married to Archibald Henry Rogers in 1963. Kathlyn was the loving mother of Michael, Scott, Kevin, and Christopher Rogers. She worked tirelessly at Owens Corning and then a nurse and caretaker for others. In her leisure years, Kathlyn enjoyed sipping coffee while watching Western films with her beloved pets. A spoiler of grandchildren, she had an endlessly giving heart.

She is predeceased by her husband; siblings: Sonny, George, Danial, Audrey, Virginia and Charles; and her first born son, Michael Frank Rogers. And survived by her sisters: Patricia Kinnaman and Barbara Schallenberger; children: Scott, Kevin, and Christopher Rogers; grandchildren, Daniele Sadlocka, Malia Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Ellie and Katie Rogers; great-grandchildren: Lukas, Luna, and Lorelai Sadlocka, and several nieces and nephews.

Claire A. Wachob, 86, of Lyndonville, NY, went home to be her precious Lord on Mon., Nov. 22, 2021 at the Villages of Orleans with her loving family at her side.

Born on Oct. 21, 1935, in Newark, NY, she was the daughter of the late Orval J. and Marion (Freeman) Ameele.  Claire graduated from Keuka College where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Christian Education.

After college graduation, she married the late David E. Wachob, Sr. on the college campus. Together they raised four children. Claire was a 45-year active leader of the Lyndonville Mongrels 4-H Club.  She attended the Yates Baptist Church where she served on the Mission Board and taught Sunday School.  Claire enjoyed Gaither Homecoming Concerts and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially looking forward to spending time with all her family during the Lyndonville Fourth of July gatherings and celebrations.

She is survived by her four children: Deborah Graning of Middleport, David E.(Mary) Wachob, Jr of Williamsport, Pa., Jeffrey (Mary Ann) Wachob of Farmington, NY and James (Carolee) Wachob of Lyndonville; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (James) Wilson of Chili, NY; nephews and niece, Jay and Keith Szczepanski and Annie Wilson.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by son-in-law, Ronald Graning.

Dennis Eugene Vanill Sr. of Bloomington Springs, Tenn. passed away on Thu., Nov. 18, 2021, following a brief illness.  Born in Medina, NY in 1947, Dennis was the son of the late Martin Vanill and Patricia (Marks) Vanill.

Dennis enlisted for four years and served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1968.  He was transferred to the Naval Reserve the last two years after signing up for two terms in Vietnam.  During his service, he earned commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

In his younger years, he was a ham radio enthusiast which carried over to his time in the military as a radioman.  Dennis was an avid motorcyclist and loved to ride with wife Sharon.  As a Vietnam Veteran, and member of the 18-7 Chapter of Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, (Dennis “Vanilla Vet” Vanill) was an ardent supporter of his fellow veterans, often riding to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC; as well as traveling to the Moving Wall.

Dennis is survived by his children: Dennis Vanill, Jr. and wife, Beth Anne, Andrea Vanill, and Cassandra Taylor; grandchildren: Daniel Vanill, Julia Vanill, David Vanill, Alicia and husband, Jason Hall, Bethany McAvoy, Joseph McAvoy, Jr., Kayleigh Taylor, and Ethan Taylor; great-grandchildren: Hunter Hall, Noah Hall, Lilyauna Hall, Bentley McAvoy, and Brayden McAvoy; sister, Deborah Bobby and brother-in-law, Tom Freeman.  Roxy and Ginger, his loyal four-legged girls, will also miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon, and his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Kinne.

Lloyd E. Hallifax, of West Shelby, entered into rest on Sat., Nov. 20, 2021 at Unity Hospital in Rochester.

Born June 9, 1941 in Newfane, Lloyd was a son of the late Elwood and Doris (Gegluik) Hallifax. A lifelong farmer, he had a small farm of his own, worked for Roberts Family Fruit Farm in Medina and most recently Albreatch Farm in Middleport. He also worked as a mechanic at various places throughout his career never truly retiring as there was always “work to be done.” Lloyd was a proud Mason and belonged to the Towpath Lodge #1193 F&AM. He was a collector of “merchandise” as he would put it, although his family and friends would say otherwise. He never met a person he considered a stranger and truly enjoyed helping others.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was predeceased in childhood by his brother, Larry Hallifax and his beloved wife, Janet L. Hallifax in 2011.

Survivors include his second wife, Helen (Wolter) Hallifax; children: Kenneth Hallifax, Arnold Hallifax, Leslie (Mike) Green and Benjamin (Vicki) Hallifax; granddaughter, Sarah (Jason) Bateman whom he raised; and grandson, Trent Green.

A graveside committal service will be held on Wed., Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby. Antoine “Vic” Vicknair, Jr., 77, of Medina, entered into rest on Fri., Nov. 19, 2021 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Born Jan. 15, 1944 in New Orleans, La., he was a son of the late Antoine Vicknair, Sr. and Rita (Cambre) Vicknair. Upon graduating high school, Vic joined the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1965-1973. He then served many years in the Army Reserves until 1994. Vic married the former Kathleen J. Faivre on July 31, 1971. They moved to the Medina area in 1973, where they made their home and raised a family of two daughters. He was employed by Fisher-Price Toys for 22 years. Upon their closing, he worked for Corson’s Manufacturing in Lockport and upon their closing he worked for Associated Brands, where he retired from after 8 years. Never one to sit idle, Vic was very active in volunteer work. He was a proud and active member of Lincoln Post #1483, VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion through which he was very active with the honor guard for funeral military honors and Memorial Day activities among many others. Alongside his wife, Kathy, Vic also volunteered with the Knights-Kaderli Memorial Fund, the Crystal Ball fundraiser and also the Orleans Community Health Foundation for the Treasure Island fundraiser.

In addition to his parents, Vic was predeceased by two brothers: Richard Vicknair and Lawrence Vicknair; and two brothers-in-law: Walter “Sonny” Edler and Rodney Pouche.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kathleen Vicknair; daughters: Renee (George) Lama of Hilton and Caryn (Nathan) Mellom of Beloit, Wis.; grandchildren: Aaron Lama, Gavin and Cole Mellom; sisters: Carol Edler, Sharlene (Brent) Guillot, Trudy (Bobby) Oplihant and Sandra Pouche; sister-in-law, Ann Vicknair; also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held at a later date to be announced next spring. MEDINA – Joseph J. Franklin, Jr., of Medina passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital with his family at his side at the age of 75. Born August 28, 1946 in Medina, Joe was a son of the late Joseph Franklin, Sr. and Lois (Breitsman) Franklin.

He was a graduate of Medina High School class of 1964. He attended some college before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. Joe served in Vietnam in the Air Cavalry and was honorably discharged in 1969, and would continue to serve in the reserves until 1972. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Joe dedicated decades of his life to the honor and preservation of Medina’s proud military history. Joe had a hard exterior and loved quietly, yet proudly, his family, friends and military brothers and sisters. He cherished his family cottage, where he would spend evenings on the swing with his hunting dogs Katie, Sarah, Snowflake, and Mikey resting at his feet.

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Michael Franklin in 1990; and daughter, Carey Franklin in 2018.

He is survived by his son Christopher (Diana) Franklin of Rochester; and his loving grandbabies, Ava Agusta and Charleigh Franklin.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4th from 10 a.m. to noon at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street Medina, with memorial service immediately to follow at noon. Masks will be required.

ALBION – Robert E. Drake, 62, died November 18, 2021 after losing his fight with Covid-19. He was born March 6, 1959 in Albion to Burly Snow and Frances Drake and was a life-long resident of this area.

Robert was a person who never forgot where he came from and received great enjoyment from travelling, living off the land. He was a lover of the outdoors and could usually be found under the hood of one of his many vintage muscle cars or riding one of his many motorized vehicles.

As an avid hunter he enjoyed hunting large and small animals as well as shooting his firearms.  He was a proud member of the NRA but had a greater pride for all his children in that they have embraced many of the things in life which he enjoyed.

He is survived by his mother, Frances “Penny” Gibson of Hilton; his children, Heather Dawn of Kent, Shannon (Josh) Graham of FL, Amanda Drake of Albion, Angel Drake of Albion, Robert Drake of Barre, Courtney Drake of Kendall, Brandon Drake of Albion, Breanna Drake of Albion, Brandon Burton and Amber Cooper of Spencerport; sisters, Juanita Pfenninger of Hilton and Ann Marie Bartel of Kent; grandchildren, Ethan, Drevon, Damien, Lamiya, Pyper, Bryson, Nevaeh, Olivia and Bennet as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Avenue-Albion, where his funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

GREECE –  Edna A. Farley, 77, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. She was born in Albion on July 21, 1944.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Frances Axtell; and her son, David Cross.

She is survived by her husband, William Farley; her sons, Matthew (Jody) Cross and Mark Cross; her siblings, Beatrice Young, Ken (Margaret) Axtell, Edith Grzyucz, Arlene (Ray) Kamman, Linda Thompson and Dean (Chris) Axtell; and many loving family and friends.

Edna was an Elementary Teacher and later retired from Eastman Kodak Company. She was an EMT with Greece Volunteer Ambulance and an active member of Hope Lutheran Church.

There are no prior calling hours. Her Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday (Nov 23rd) at 10 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 1301 Vintage Lane, Greece. Private Interment. HENDERSON, NC – Michael Louis Barry, 80, of Henderson, NC died Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Maria Parham Health. Born in Orleans County, NY, he was the son of the late Arthur Barry and Mary Spaulding Barry.

Mr. Barry was a long-time employee of Xerox Corporation and was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid hunter, an accomplished woodworker and quite the handyman.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in New York.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patricia “Pat” Barry; one daughter, Mary Catherine Price (John); two sons, Keith Michael Barry (Parampal Deol) and Christopher Paul Barry (Lisa); two sisters, Jean Batt and Karen Dudek; one brother, John Barry; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanette Marks.
