OAKFIELD – An Oakfield man was killed in an ATV accident on Saturday night after striking a rock embankment, which caused the ATV to overturn several times.

State troopers reported this morning that Thomas S. Butler, 43, was ejected and died at the scene. His 55-year-old passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries. That passenger was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for treatment, State Police said.

Troopers were dispatched to Lockport Road in Oakfield at 10:12 p.m. Troopers said Butler was driving a 2014 Can Am Outlander northbound on Bliss Road and crossed Lockport Road, exiting the intersection and hitting the rock embankment. Neither operator nor passenger were wearing helmets, State Police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for the deceased. This is still an active investigation, State Police said.
