Press Release, Orleans/Niagara BOCES

LAKE VIEW – Students from the Orleans and Niagara Career and Technical Education Centers recently spent a day last week at the IUOE Local 17 Headquarters in Lake View near Buffalo to tour the 13th Annual Western New York Construction Career Days.

This event was attended by about 1,300 students from 30 local schools and gives students the opportunity to experience construction and building trades careers with hands-on activities.  The event is a great partnership because it gives students a chance to learn about their options after graduation, talk to business leaders and owners and it gives local trades a chance to recruit young, high-skilled employees.

“Despite the rainy, foggy weather, my students and students in our Building Trades programs, Construction Systems, HVAC and Conservation classes had the opportunity to test their machine operation skills, attend instructional seminars, meet with prospective employers, talk with workers it the field and practice their welding, painting and concrete skills,” said Diesel Technology teacher Wes Blidy. “It was a great experience!”
