Numbers up for Albion swim squads
A year ago the Albion boys swim squad struggled through an 0-10 Niagara-Orleans League campaign with a roster of only five swimmers. However, the Purple Eagles have already scored one major victory before this season even begins has their numbers have nearly tripled to a roster of 12.
“The better numbers are certainly encouraging,” said Coach Carlos Burroughs.
Senior Morgan Seielstad, who placed second in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events at last year’s All-League meet, heads the Albion boys returning quartet which also includes senior Tim Blue, sophomore Bailey Maier and freshman Tyler Kast.
The numbers are also up a bit to 14 for the Albion girls squad which is led by the veteran group of seniors Ashley Hapeman, Olivia Neidert and Xochiti Rosario; sophomores Elizabeth Furmanski, Mackenzie Luft and Clara Stilwell and freshman Rylie Lear.
“Our goals remain as they always have been to be competitive and have our swimmers improve throughout the year,” said Burroughs.
Albion will have four non league meets against Genesee Region League foes before opening the N-O season on December 16 at Roy-Hart.
