Area high school coaches and players must have thought it was six days before Christmas instead of six days before Easter this morning as a burst of wet snow left ball diamonds covered in white adding one more weather related setback to a spring sports season that has had a tough time getting going.

The snowy weather wiped out several scheduled baseball games including Depew at Albion, Notre Dame at Lyndonville and Roy-Hart at Wilson. Wednesday’s Albion at Akron baseball and Albion at Lockport softball games have also already been postponed. The Notre Dame at Lyndonville game has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

“We’re two league games behind but we have rescheduled dates for them so we’re not in too bad of shape but if we get more bad weather we’ll have problems,” said Medina varsity baseball Coach Eric Hellwig. “And for the grass fields in the area things were just starting to green up and dry out so this definitely will be a setback for many teams.”
