Newfane thumps Albion to open title defense

Roaring out to a turnover aided 16-0 lead at the outset, Newfane went on to open defense of its Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball title by romping to an 88-34 victory over host Albion this evening.
Ben Dickinson erupted for 14 points, most coming on layups off turnovers, to spearhead Newfane’s attack in the opening period which finished with the Panthers up by 17 at 22-5.
Dominating with a very active, aggressive defense which keyed the fast break offense, Newfane went on to extend its advantage to 34 (45-11) at the half and to 48 (70-22) at the end of the third quarter.
Dickinson, who tallied 12 in the second period, finished with a game high 34 in just three-quarters of work.
Brayden Seitz added 13 and Nate Snow 10 for the Panthers which got point production from 11 players.
Blake Preston scored 17 and Kyle Radder 11 to lead Albion.
Akron 55, Barker 51
A big third period scoring edge keyed Akron to a narrow 55-51 N-O win at Barker.
Trailing 25-21 at the half, Akron used a 21-8 third period scoring edge to rally into the lead for good by a 42-33 margin.
Brale Abrams scored 11, Ben Gerstung 10 and Jake Leach and Derren Brooks 7 each to lead Akron.
Luey Castro took game high honors with 25 for Barker as Aidan Mescall added 11 and Logan Murrell 9.
Wilson 64, Roy-Hart 53
Building up a 36-17 lead at the half, Wilson went on to down visiting Roy-Hart 64-53.
Aidan Neumann scored 27 and Blake Martin 22 to lead the Lakemen.
Dan Aquilina scored 21 and Rem Albee 18 to pace the Rams.
